Aye, the only problem might be that (from memory if you'll pardon the pun:p) the 505 has a SDHC capable SD slot, but the firmware on it only works with up to 2gb cards at the moment* (it'll happily read larger capacity MS duo/pro duo cards).

Having said that, a 2gb SD card is plenty big enough to hold a year or more of reading matter (even the 505's fairly small internal memory is enough for a hundred or more books).

*At least that's what I remember reading when I first got my 505.

Thanks for pointing this out! I had not realised. Sony are sneaky! I suppose one way around this is to purchase a micro SD to Memory Stick adapter and pop an 8g Micro SD in the adapter and instert it into the MS Slot on the PRS. The adapter looks just like a MS (works on the PSP etc) so that might work if the 2G headroom is not enough and you do not want to swap SD cards or buy a real MS

Nilrem, I am running mine with a 4Gb card in the slot at the minute ... it is about 75% filled and has not given me any problem. I did however read something about getting the latest firmware update to allow cards biger han 4Gb ... I would however wonder what the performance of a flat database would be like though at that sort of level. I would guess maybe a few smaller cards might be better.

I take back what I said about Sony! Recent firmware seems to add SDHC support!

My eBook from play has 1.2.00.18050
Sony's firmware updates for the PRS-505 system software to version 1.1.00.18040 and later provides the following benefits:

    Support for EPUB file format
Support for Adobe® Digital Editions 1.5 or later and Adobe DRM-protected content
Note: Requires installation of, and authorization with, Adobe Digital Editions 1.5 or later.
Enables text within PDF eBooks to be "reflowed". This will enlarge the text and improve the readability of text-based PDF?s
Support for SDHC memory cards that have a capacity of more than 4 GB
    Delete eBooks directly on device
General fixes to improve stability and performance

What version of the firmware do you have. It is possible that it is a later firmware as Sony introduced SDHC for 4G and above.

The database is small and the bulk of the data is held in file so performance and scalability would be unlikely to suffer.

Ah, thanks for that information, it looks like my one is able to take the 4gb cards, they must have updated it not long before I bought my one :)

I didn't realise they'd updated the firmware as it wasn't on the Sony UK site (possibly all the EU models have the later firmware?).

Can we update/check for updated firmware from the US Sony Ebook Store? Also, it also says on the Sony UK website, that the PRS-505 can use the new version of Ebook library for the -300 and -600 which is 3.0. But again, I can only find the dl link on the US website. Do you guys think the US software and firmware are ok to use?

I have the same firmware as Seth 1.2.00.18050.

Sawan82, also have a look at 'calibre' which is open source and can replace Sonys software. I have read some good reports about it and hope to try it out this weekend.

I thought Calibre was only available for those with poor sight or a disability that made book reading difficult?
