When Ikea came about a few years back I wasn't keen but there stuff seems to be quite hard wearing. I got a washer from Argos and its not been much cop to be honest. My friend got 2 leather sofas from Argos and they have been fine too so i suppose it all depends on the article in question. At least at Ikea you can see the item in all its glory whereas Argos you are mainly relying on a picture in a catalogue.

I've found Ikea furniture generally much more stylish and longer lasting than Argos. But I did have an argos sofa that was much more comfortable than any I have sat on in Ikea.

But for anything like a wardrobe or bookcase, then I would definitely go with Ikea.

why don't you tell us what it is that you're looking at?

I like Ikea very much. the one argos wardrobe I owned, years back was flimsy. Ikea furniture is solid and will stand forever in one place - it will last two house moves after which it doesn't last - I've moved house more than anyone I know! the argos wardrobes we had didn't last one move, they had to be skipped becuae they wouldn't go back together and appeared to have warped in the move

I'm fairly sure that you get better value for money from Ikea also. I wouldn't buy any furniture from Argos these days at all, ever.

I was in a big Argos store today that is selling off their display furniture and happened to look inside the drawers of some of the units and they are very flimsy and small and not that cheap considering it was ex-display. Its a good idea to check out the reviews on Argos as I find they are fairly accurate.

My bedroom furniture is from argos, it was bought before we had an IKEA here, but now if I had a choice of argos or ikea for that kinda thing ikea would win everytime.
My parents got bedroom furniture from ikea about a year ago and i have to admit it is gorgeous, drawers are all a good size and nice and deep compared to the depth of the drawers i have from argos.

Bookcases are definitely better quality at Ikea. The ones we bought from Argos were not strong enough for our books - the shelves started bowing!

You can, but they charge a small fee - 70p fixed.

Not much really unless you're only looking at a £5 item. Factor it in to the price and then decide.
