Tesco's introduce rationing !

Options
The OH and I went there this morning and were told that our tray of value baked beans (16 tins) wasn't allowed as they can now only sell a max of 10 items per customer ! Anybody else experienced this ? If you want to buy in bulk, go elsewhere !

    MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

yes all this limiting the number of identical items nonsense they are trying to make the average shopper feel as if they are doing you a favour by restricting the individual's ration of their over-priced goods

I have had to stop buying online from ASDA due to this.

We are a large family (2 adults and 5 kids - one a teenager with a huge appetite), and I often do a 2 weekly shop. MY local ASDA limit loads of tinned items to just 6 of each (sweetcorn, peas, mushroom, potatoes.....to name some). Sweetcorn, for instance, is something I use a lot of...in salads, soups, mexican,....and 6 tins wont even last a week. I had been using Tesco, so if they are bringing this rule in I'm going to have to see if Sainsburys allow larger shops :(

I know it may not seem like an idea either of you'd like(mainly as you've not asked for any sort of advice), but have you considered both going in(with your OH's) at different times(maybe 5 minutes apart), pretend not to know each other, and stock up that way, then you could get more than 6 tins or in the OP's case, more than 10 tins.

I certainly don't agree with this rationing idea, but if it is being implemented, then this is surely the easiest way around it.

As far as I'm concerned, any advice is always welcome :)

It's not so easy as I am a carer - that's why I use home delivery so much. It's a good idea for those that can, though.

The reason they do this is not to help protect availability for all customers. There is no restriction on buying that amount, but the signs do ask that you place an order for any large amounts. This can be done one week, to collect the next etc. Each store has an individual bulk purchase policy, in my store it is only 4 items, but this policy is only enforced on the very special offer items for example beer deals.

I noticed a sign today at the checkout at tesco limiting people to 10 of the same item, but they let me buy 17 cans of energy drink they had reduced to 15p a can.

Tesco have done this for years, but they don't necessarily enforce it. Not defending the policy, as it was a right pain in the neck when we were trying to buy lots of items with extra points on, but think that is why the introduced it.
