My anti virus subscription with McAfee runs out next month and so does my son's on his laptop.

This looks a great deal as it can be put onto three computers.

Does anyone know anything about Kapersky? Is it good?

I have been with McAfee for three years and I am convinced it is making my computer run slower and slower.

If I go for this new security package, is it easy to get rid of the McAfee that is on my computer?

Many thanks.

Yes, Kapersky is very good. It's one of the best in fact.

As for getting rid of McAfee, follow these instructions.

Thanks for the information, it does seem a very good deal.

Have read that it is very difficult to remove all the bits and pieces of McAfee from your computer - they obviously don't want to go without a fight:D

Note that Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 has just come out (six months early!), and you will need to upgrade the installed 2009 version with a 68 MB download then a ~7 MB update of definitions. I did this yesterday on my PC - slow, but no problems.

When you buy a security package "in a box" so to speak, do you get the usual daily updates downloaded? Sorry to sound thick, but I have always just had it downloaded direct from McAfee.

So will the 2009 security package be out of date instantly and I'll have to upgrade to 2010 straightaway?

I think the older kaspersky keys are valid for their newer versions.
and you will get defination updates till your subscription runs out.

Kaspersky is a good av program i just dont like the anti-spam module or the interface itself, havn't actually tried 2010 yet will need to update the computers I have installed it on and give it a try.

    UPDATES
The 2009 version won't be out of date, and if you use the 'automatic' updates (the default) you will get updates to the various definition categories often several times per day (you'll only see this if you look specifically).

    UPGRADES
I just chose to upgrade from 2009 to 2010 simply because someone pointed out that it was available. You get a one-year or two-year (or whatever) licence, and any upgrades that happen during that period are free.
Probably all those with 2009 installed will be offered the 2010 upgrade over the next month or two...

Kaspersky AV is very good. Use it both personally and professionally to cover a college with thousands of users.

You might want to check with your bank. My one offers me free Antivirus (Kaspersky, as it happens!) because anything that makes my computer more secure has to reduce the problems with internet banking security for them too.

Give 'em a crack - if your lot don't do it then it isn't like you lost anything for checking.

I don't see why they don't integrate that into the uninstaller!

Just one more query about Kapersky - does it automatically fix/delete any viruses etc that it finds on doing a scan? I am sure I read on one of the older threads that it flags up problems, but you have to find them and fix then manually:eek: I think this would be a problem for me.

Does anyone know if this is right?

Have just about decided to buy Kapersky as I can get it for £7.50 from Amazon if I buy a few other things:T
    Thanks.
