I thought it was until youngest child was 8? My youngest is fine and I've always wanted another child (my husband had a vasectomy done privately without my consent). I'll probably meet someone else and have another at some stage. I need to do it before I'm 40 if I do do it anyway if you know what i mean.

Yes, you're right. I was replying to another poster who seemed to imply that you only needed a year to do what you wanted. My post wasn't very clear. (Where did that blue come from?)

There seem to be Art Access/ Foundation courses at Lancaster and Morecambe College, Runshaw College and Preston College, although there may be more in your county that aren't listed.

I dont think I will get on the access as I don't have an A level or any qualification in a relevant subject - but I've found one at Craven college which is a pre access course. I'd like to go straight for the access but I don't think thats going to happen unless I could wow them with my portfolio...and lets face it....I've got a few weeks to create some pretty good stuff now....

Hmmm, how did I get from seperation, not knowing what to do about work, enquiring about benefits to comitting to going into further education in a couple of hours?! LOL

Unless it is completely different for art, an access course is designed for those who don't have A levels and I thought a foundation course was similar...?

Lol, that's the power of mse for you! ;)

I'm going to give craven college a call on Monday and see what the situation would be. I've selected Craven as I live on the yorks/lancs border, near skipton and its much nicer and quicker going into Skipton than it is into Burnley!

Make an appointment with the Uni and you may not even have to do an access course. With mature students (25+) they will take any life/work experiance into consideration, which may mean that you could get direct on to a degree course.

TBH though, it is quite late do enrol now, but then there are always spaces when clearing is in process.

Personally, I wouldnt do a pre-access course. It's a waste of a year.

You could also do a course (level 1) through the OU and complete from home.

That would work well for an academic subject like English, but not for Art. The OU only does Art History, which isn't really appropriate.

Edit: Craven College seems to do a Diploma in Foundation Studies Art and Design which is what you'd be looking for; their Access courses are geared to the Humanities and Social Studies which is inappropriate for you.

I was always under the impression if you left a job or got sacked although you received a payment (especially when theres children involved) it was reduced.
I'd noticed the bit about no JSA but still income support, but I was once wrongfully dismissed and signing on for 2 months. During these 2 months, my benefits were half what someone who hadnt been sacked/left a job was paid.

Good luck whatever you do.

That can happen with JSA but not for a lone parent on IS.
