If HomeServe employed less apologists for dreadful service in your 'Here to Help Team', and had more fitters, then you might go some way to improving your dreadful reputation.1 -
Hi Capetown,
Someone I know has been mis-sold several policies from Homeserve, they tend to contact vunerable people using phone sales techniques. They have in 2013 issued refunds for holders of mis-sold Housholders accident Plan policies and you should get refunded the whole amount of monies paid. I am at present persuing Homeserve through the Financial Ombudsman. Lots of talk in the news this morning about Utility suppliers overcharging loyal customers but Homeserve and other service companies always make those who renew pay through the nose, always cancel after one year and find another supplier, you will not be rewarded for loyalty to Homeserve, quite the opposite.0 -
I reported a fault to Homeserve on 14/12/2014 and till today 12/2/15. The fault is still not corrected.
Its an electric boiler and apparently the thermostat and the connector need to be change. But to do that they have to drain the boiler. So they would need someone to drain and someone to change the parts.
The parts took forever to come because Homeserve couldnot contact the engineer office or the engineer etc
I am unsure what they are doing but they have sent out a few engineers who one way or another can not carry out the work. In between visits, there are so many no shows too. Who do they use?!!! are they even qualified? They seem to be all incompetent.
I have spent almost everyday calling Homeserve. I have taken so many days off to wait for engineers. I have been nice, patient, upset and angry talking to their customer service operators but no success. I am left with no hot water and do not know what to do.
What kind of Home emergency cover that take nearly 3 months and not sorted out!!! With their terrible reputation, how can they be in business!!
I have sent them an official complaint via post, via their website. I have emailed to their press office and the CEO. I will email/post my story everywhere if I have to.
I just want the boiler to be fixed ASAP. Any advice will be much appreciated.
Did you get any advice - I am in the same boat!0 -

My elderly father-in-law got a Homeserve offer through the post last week. Only £6 a year. That's such a good deal. Even a call out charge is £50 in London.
I know this thread started years ago. Are they any good now? Have they learnt their lesson?
Should I sign my F-I-L up?0 -
That is £6 for the first year only. Subsequent years are eye wateringly expensive, and they auto renew. (read the 3 point text, the improvement is they tell you this clearly now, in 3 point text, they didn't make it clear before and did a lot of refunding)
I drop the "offer" letters in the shredder.;)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Thanks, yeah so it's £96 the next year and by the sound of the thread gonna rise every year. The shredder has been fed! :T0

The wording is still a bit suspect, "Special offer £6 until XXX, then reverting to £12" makes you think the normal price is £12 a year.
(No £12 a year doesn't seem ridiculously cheap to me, how many times have you had a burst pipe in the last 30 years?)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Yeah I had the same wording, but on the BACK of that piece of paper, 3/4 of the way down on the right in tiny print is where they tell you the next year will be £96 or whatever. Evil.
1st year is a good deal though. From how I read it, it's actually covering lots of your internal plumbing too. Disclaimer: I couldn't be bothered to read their weasely exceptions in the T&Cs fine print so I have not idea if it's actually covering anything useful.0 -
So what is the alternative to Homeserve? Has anyone got some better alternatives? I've been with Homeserve for one year but I want to move on to something better or cheaper.
I'm looking for external water pipe/drain coverage.
I've got a rather old property so I think it might be a good idea to get it.0
