    Morning all
Very overcast here today, we didn't get the promised storm yesterday.
Plans for today include digging up some homegrown pots, meal planning, washing, declutter yet more carp from my spare room & some other general housework. Apart from that I shall be reading & doing some more to my tapestry.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Sorry, I'm reading the thread backwards as usual:D Just been looking at Tiredmum's dd. Lovely pics, she looks fab;)

    Mine haven't reached prom age yet and two of them are boys so I'm hoping it won't cost me too much. A friend was telling me how much she'd spent on her daughter's prom and I was amazed. Apparently you 'have to' pay for all these things;
    dress
    shoes
    hairdo
    nails
    spray tan (why?)
    jewellery
    tiara (why?)
    makeup
limo (someone arrived in a helicopter last year)
    photographs
    ticket for the prom itself

This particular girl's friends have all posted pics of themselves in their dresses on facebook so they can slag each other off and be mean about the (sensible, thrifty) girl who has bought a £30 dress that she can wear again.

I think all we had was a disco in the school hall which I didn't go to. Still, i'm sure they all have a great and memorable time.

That's interesting Taplady, I've not heard about this event. Which park?

    .

cripplegate park. there's fencing workshops, other entertainment such as dancers and refreshment and local groups on stage plus cheap refreshments.

Happy Birthday to the Halight twins:bdaycake::bdaycake:

I totally agree in one of the pics the ginger haired girl had a cocktail dress above the knee and she looked lovely . In the year book on the prom page they were going to have a worst dressed but there was such a row it got dropped thank goodness not fair on those who are struggling. luckily hairdresser is family friend so she gave the time for free as a gift and the tiara thing her daughter and DD2 will use as they are at different schools thankfully limo was shared so not too bad but i totaly agree that it is a big expense the worst was the official photographer at the meal £25 for 2 pics:eek: surely someone could have asked someone from the college to do it cheaper obviously i need to point them in the right direction next time

Hi all. Great surprise to find we are back up and running already. Here in France, I'd have had to wait until 1pm before I could post!

It's a beautiful day here today - DH is working, so I have been sat in the sun crocheting. My excuse is that it will be too hot out there later in the day.

Tired Mum - the photos are lovely. Your DS looks stunning - a beautiful girl in a beautiful dress.

Proms didn't exist in my day - probably just as well for my Mum, because I'm one of three daughters. It's very sad that girls are judged on how much they can afford to spend on the occasion.

Taplady - well done to your DS!

Happy Birthday to the Halight Twins. I hope you all have a brilliant day.

OS today will be tarragon chicken, new potatoes, and salad, followed by some more of the cherries we picked last week.

You wouldn't believe how quiet it is in this part of France. We are five minutes drive from the nearest town, but in farming territory, so it feels as if we are deep in the middle of nowhere. We have about twenty-five neighbours in our hamlet, but we are quite well-spaced so, unless I go outside, I can't hear anyone! Yesterday, in our little bit, I think I was the only person at home - if felt like I was the only person alive! Today, though, the local children are off school and I can hear them playing, and I can see the farmer tending his cows, so it doesn't feel so isolated. I love the peace and quiet, though. The birds here are wonderful, and they are never quiet. Besides all the usual garden birds, I can see birds of prey riding the thermals, which is wonderful to watch. DH loves it here because he never gets stuck in rush-hour traffic because the roads are congestion-free.

Anyway, enough of that; I should be working (self-employed, too, like Louisewh123), but find it hard to get motivated most of the time, especially when the sun is shining). Still, all my chores are done, so I have some time in hand.

    Well, I've mioliered too long.

Hope you are all having a good day.

    Morning peeps

cloudy and a bit muggy here this morning but it was cooler near the water when i walked the houndies. They are both fast asleep now after a nice walk and then i gave them the last of the mince & pearl barley mix that i made for them earlier in the week. Afterwards they had the skin off a chicken so they have clean bowls now.:D

I managed to get a whoopsied chicken from M&S a couple of days ago and the carcass is bubbling away on the hob atm i`ve saved most of the meat off it and have just made chicken and bacon pasta for tea tonight.
I`ve left my meal planner at w*rk so i`ve no idea if i need to defrost anything for later or not, i shall ring DH if i need him to rummage in the freezer.

Tired Mum - Your daughter looks beautiful. Glad to hear that everything else is sorted out for you too.

Halight - Hope that the twins enjoy their party

I`m off for a potter in the garden before sorting the kitchen out.

Catch you all later, have a good day.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

Your DD looks stunning in the deep red yet classy at the same time. I love the fishtail sweepy out effect and the embroidery.

My 20 year has a fancy party in September which is black tie and outdoors so difficult to hit the right note.

Have bought some new sandals, a skirt, pair of trousers for me and two vest tops for DD - all new in a charity sale this morning. I couldn't try anything on but for that price it is worth just grabbing it.

Popped into Sainsburys before it got too hot and bought a selection of rolls (3 for 2) that will go well with the cold meat, cheese slices, pate and fruit I bought at Aldi yesterday.

Might make a curry tonight or else a huge quiche - depends what everyone wants.

Just going to strip our bed and then put the washing on while the weather is so good.

    Hugs to all

Good luck with the driving. I had to drive myself to where I am here in SW France, from Portsmouth, UK, and I was dreading it. I tried to rope all sorts of people into doing it for me, but, in the end, I had to do it, and I am so glad I did. I got lost just once, which was a bit scary, but after that I was fine, as I'm sure you will be. It really made me feel confident about driving once I got here, and was the best way to get used to French roads - and the awful driving here!
