Hiya :o I'm poooooooooorly! I threw up all night, and have been in bed most of the day (Bun, sorry I missed you on FB, I'd left the laptop on and gone to sleep, but I wholeheartedly agree ;)).

Even though I feel like crap though, I can't help smiling like a looney whenever my phone beeps or rings...what's that all about? :D :rotfl:

Phew, it was quite an effort to sit up and type this - need another lie down!

Sorry Sammy - OH was looking at results - think he googled the wrong race *rolls eyes* - still I think you well in this heat - just been out myself - its 'orrible!

Bunny - a question for you - purely out of interest so dont answer if you dont want to - which do you feel is the greater achievement? Mo Farah breaking the British 10k record a few weeks ago or a beginner runner (say for arguments sake someone running less than six months) completing a 10k?

For me its Mo Farah - he has probably trained everyday for years on end to become that good - I find that hugely exciting - dedication has pushed him to the edge of human achievement rather than genetic advantage. Yes its a great thing for more and more people to take up running and challenge themselves with new distances and times - but its not the same achievement as someone whose dedicated their whole life to something they love and to being the best in the world (well in the UK anyway :p)...

For me people like that are an inspiration to the rest of us chipping away at our times and fitness.

Please forgive me if you think I am stepping out of line here or sticking my big nose in where it's not wanted, but to me the bigger achievement is a beginner doing a 10k. Mo Farah is a runner for a living, now if he could come along and balance the university accounts with just a short amount of training then I would be well impressed. I am an accountant for a living, I've trained for years and it's what I do everyday, so I'm expected to be good at it and if I trained for my CIMA exams every single day in life and didn't do anything else then I could be a prize winner and be one of the best in the world as well. I hope you can see my point here.

I want to answer that one Becky...the achievement is both widely different and the same.....nothing like sitting on the fence eh....

Personally finishing my first 10k was a huge achievement - TO ME - no one else and I certainly don't inspire anyone. I haven't got the resources money wise or time wise to dedicate myself to running so I can't hope to achieve an inch of the elite runners.

I find it hugely exciting to watch the elite runners and admire them but its the runners who give their all in a race (but still come last) that make me cry tears of joy.....

For me, the greater achievement would be someone who hasn't run in their life and then does something like a 10k. I would see doing a 5k as probably the greatest achievement of my life physically as it's something I've never done and even the thought of it scares me stupid. :o

I think if someone can get over their fears, worries and lack of self confidence to brave the watching faces of the general public when they walk, jog, collapse over the line at the end then that to me is an enormous achievement. I know I'd cry if I ever achieved a 5k :o

I think we all have something we physically/mentally/academically are genetically made to excel in at some level or another (for me it is cooking, probably my general 'braininess' :o as people often seem to point out on facebook when they find me from being at school with them and playing the flute) and whilst people who break world records (in athletics for example) are to be hugely applauded for giving their total life dedication to, they were probably naturally good at it to start with and so - through encouragement, luck, or being pushed by parents - ended up following this 1 goal to its outcome with all the hard work which then followed.

I think all of you who have done runs etc are absolutely amazing and I :T:T:T you all - I am in total awe. However, I have a sneaking little extra :T for spud who was so scared to do the Leeds 10k and whilst I am so proud of you all, I was sooooooo proud that spud finished because she really didn't think she could.

Maybe they are both as great as each other - but for different reasons
