Items stolen from hold luggage from Malta Airport

:mad:Grr I am so angry. Yesterday me and two other members of my family travelled back from a week’s holiday from Malta. I had bought 200 fags while I was out there, had hidden them in my hold luggage and locked the case up. Whilst going through security one of the members of our group had totally forgot to put a bottle of booze they had bought while we were away in the suitcase. They had bought 800 fags, we held on to three of that packs while the one pack and the brandy were put thought as hold luggage in a locked bag. So we get back home last night. My case had been forced open with the lock nowhere to be been and my fags gone. The same thing had happened with the other member of the party. I am so annoyed, we have contacted the airport, I am sure they will say nothing they can do. I know it was our fault to put expensive items in our suitcases, but I am stupid to trust that nobody would break into my case to take 200 fags covered in my dirty pants lol.

Call the airport and airlines and try to file a claim.

Didn't you notice the lock had gone when you picked up your baggage? you should really check it over and make sure it's intact before leaving the airport and report it straight away.
What quantity of cigarettes are you allowed to bring in? don't you have to declare them? If so I'm not sure you'll be able to claim for anything that's not really legal in the first place

You were well within your allowances as this is a european flight. To be in a strong position you need to report it before you leave the airport though, and provide receipts otherwise you are in a your word versus theirs situation, and who knows whether it happened in Malta or the UK. Worth having a go at reporting it now though, as specific airports won't want to aquire a bad reputation for this type of thing and you may be lucky.0

Look at it this way, whoever stole your 200 cigarettes has probably bought you a few more days of life.

Thanks
. I will ring the airline in a bit. I think it's bad that malta airport have no control over their staff and just let them nick out of people's bag. If they are breaking locks to get things out they could be putting anything in suitcases.Look at it this way, whoever stole your 200 cigarettes has probably bought you a few more days of life.0
