How do you know it was in Malta and not in the UK?0 -

Sadly, it's not just Malta that has this problem.
Isn't Heathrow's nickname still Thief-row ?0 -

I never lock my suitcases as I thought it wasn't allowed unless you use a special lock that they can open anyway.

Think you're a tad confused, when you go to the states if you want your bag relocked you must have a TSA lock, otherwise you will/can have your lock cut off to gain access to the contents.
If you dont lock your bags you may want to check your travel isurance as you need to make your bags as secure as reasonably possible to ensure no easy entry into your bag.
However as ive said before locks are kinda worth nowt as anyone who is motivated will get into your bag, however a lock will often put an opportunist thief off.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Obviously i know you are better placed than myself to advise this. But from what i have read, you are more likely to have your case robbed if you have a lock on it.0 -
I would tend to disagree, its like locking your car, its easy to break a window to get access but it far easier to gain entry to an unlocked car.
In my experience the vast majority of bags are locked but that wont stop someone whos motivated. Even though i know the best way to secure my bag i still check my security measures before I leave the baggage hall with my bag as thats the time to report any break ins.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Sods law I'll lose something from my case next time I travel.:Dphatbear wrote:However as ive said before locks are kinda worth nowt as anyone who is motivated will get into your bag, however a lock will often put an opportunist thief off.
I noticed in Madrid airport that people were queuing upto have their bags cling filmed wrapped. I've seen cases already wrapped but haven't noticed it on offer at other airports. Do UK airports offer this, I usually fly out of Gatwick, Bristol or Cardiff and haven't seen it there.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

The only time I've had problems is when I used a new suitcase with a padlock on. It was broken into and jewellery stolen. Unfortunately I didn't notice until I was at the hotel. Then at the advice of the rep reported it to the police and my insurers. However, as it hadn't been reported at the airport the claim wasn't successful.
My approach now is to carry anything (small) of value and not to lock my case.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
I have spent the last half an hour trying to ring Air malta with no luck, when i did get through i got cut off. I have sent them a very strongly worded email and if i get no responce i am going to keep trying. I don't like the though of people going through my case they could put anything in there!0
