Good post but definitely an 'I've swallowed the dictionary' moment there!ruggedtoast wrote: »In fact there sociological studies running back to the 70s on the corrosive influence in schooling of a certain type of working class antipathy to establishment institutions, which manifested in a quasi-passive resistance towards extra-peer expectations.I think....0

No these Mcjobs are clearly "below" some people.
Below them???:rotfl::rotfl:
In my mind there is NOTHING lower than sitting on the sofa consuming tax money and taking money from other people.
Well said i agree.
You are better off in work than out even a low wage is better than none.:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Lincolnite wrote: »I totally agree with ruggedtoast on the 'unrealistic expectations of working life as a kid' notion... Everyone has to start somewhere in employment (whether you consider that to be working at McDonalds or working a 9-5 office job), different people have different standards, but I agree it's not right the snobbery that goes on with regards to jobs that are deemed too "beneath" some people. I would much rather see a young person working hard at McDonalds (or anywhere else for that matter) and being a responsible tax-paying citizen, than some of the Jeremy Kyle clan who do nothing and sponge off everyone else!
There is a sink council estate not far from were i live with about 80% without a job. Lots of young singal moms too. Yes some are too ill to work but others just make belive that thay are too ill for work.
I just do not see why thay keep themselfs on the bread line all the time. In some ways a singal mom with a part time job on min pay can be a lot better off as thay will top her pay put with working tax credits. Ok yes she will still be getting money off the state be at least she will be trying to better herself and doing a bit of work.
Anyone trying to left themselfs up and better them selfs and there familys should have all the help that can be given them that just wont an easy life infront of the setee should be cut lose from the state.:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Actually, the majority of McD's staff are part time, students of all levels (from those doing a levels, through to degree students). They're usually earning enough to pay the rent - there's fairly flexible working, opportunities for extra hours, etc etc.
there is a stigma attached to working there, but I didn't care about that.
Having done it, I'm amazed at the number of lowlife who speak to the staff in so many condascending ways, not realising that the staff member has a higher IQ than the whole group of P***** up mongs, & may well be their GP or surgeon in 3-4 years time!
What a great post and I totally agree with you. I have witnessed this first hand (after a few beers!) Whilst waiting for something to soak up some up the alcohol I consumed during my student days I watched one of the scummy underclass shouting racist, bigotted and sexual comments at a poor wee lass working behind the counter. Absolute scum. The boy and his mates were laughing in their shell suits without realising the very fact you are speaking about. The lass was probably paying more tax than him.
I had a word with him (I simply couldn't stand back and allow that) and he backed down a bit and one of his mates agreed with me. They left and I said that they were £$^&&&!!! and she said, sadly, that she was almost immune to it by now.
Why are we allowing this underclass to get away with this lifestyle?
Why do we keep giving them money?
Why are we allowing them this sense of "entitlement" that they have?

WRONG!!! They know they will never have their own house because the state will do that for them.....It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

I tend to think that people who think there is no such a thing as a bad job have a certain lack of immagination. However, I wouldn't really classify working at mc jobs as a "bad job".
Now, this job seems fairly bad http://jobseekers.direct.gov.uk/detailjob.aspx?sessionid=e08d7c4f-30fe-4d86-ab85-b5be58438045&j=TON/36225 .“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

The thing is all of you say its ok for them to pay crap wages but when the state top it up to a livable wage via tax credits you scream and shout....sorry you cant have it both ways.It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
