i thanked it too because it gave information - i may not agree with it but it was interesting. the hpc comment was due to the number of links that you post across from there ;)

I won't deny this, it saves trawling for them myself, in a way, with the board being 'closed' now to new people, and most folk on here being aware of it, it would probably have been put to better use on one of the other MSE boards.

Come to think of it, apart from chatting amongst friends on here (bears and bulls in my case :)), I feel the board has lost the point of existence. I bet Martin is hoping that it will die a natural death as posters slowly disappear over time. It's a pity really as although there is some arguing, there are some good articles posted from both sides of the debate, yet no one 'new' is ever likely to see them. I might get busted for saying this but I think the owner of the board is a knob and a bit of a wimp. Either open the board to the world, or delete it.

    Rant over.;)

i think he's a publicity hungry man earns money indirectly from this site who wouldn't want alternate views on the economy and the housing being attributed to him.

the board is defunct - i was waiting for you to bite on the HPC comment because i didn't see the point of them being put on this specific board - we could always start posting over on the Housing board ;)

    what do you reckon?

Nah, why deny something that's true.

They're a bit soft over there though aren't they, I think they would welcome some bullish posters like yourself, but the likes of me would rarely get a thanks;), I think they do hugz as well, which gets right on my t!ts:D. The only thing we could do is invade the board en mass.....:D

that would be a good thing to do.
them appreciating bullish posts is all part of the balance, they also need posters that firmly have their feet on the ground and see it differently for balance.
i don't actually think you're that bearish to be fair.

Agreed. Also, a lot of it does not follow his own outlook.

However, as I have said many times, his board, his rules.

I don't think I'm a nutter,:D probably because even though I don't own at the minute, my position isn't too bad, I could buy what I wanted now, relatively easily, I guess the more bearish you are, the more desperate your postion, and I don't mean that in a patronising way.

I might have missed it ad9898 but just what is your view on what the press have said historically? Right some of the time? Right and wrong pretty equally? Right more often than not? Or something else. Must admit that I am a bit lazy to go through all the information you have posted and correlate it with actual events.

I think the point of the press statements over that time is pretty much what we are seeing now, they kept saying prices were rising only for data to be released a few weeks down the line which contradicts what they said, this kept happening over and over again, over a period of many years, until eventually they were right, and after 7 years from the peak of the bubble, house prices did actually start to rise and continued to do so.

that's probably true about many people on here. many posts and links on here are about predictions or what is expected instead of actual facts.

you're definitely not a nutter, that's for sure. neither is Graham if he's reading.

    Many thanks for that.

Edit: Do the majority of people have an interest, one way or another, in seeing markets rise? Even the present jump in oil prices (although nowhere near the levels last year) is seen as an encouraging sign of pickup in economic activity. Presumably the press was reporting what people wanted to hear?
