I think charity runs are great - for example, rfl etc ...but it can be very annoying when you enter a race 6 months in advance because there are loads of charity runners who want to do it - if I've trained for a race but am ill (like what happened to me last weekend for freckleton) I lose my money...whereas you should just be able to enter the week before when you know you are fit and ready...
It would be better to have charity races/fun runs and other races and not have them together I think...what do others think - would it be better from your povs to have just fun runners/charity races and not have elites/club runners/racers in your races??0 -

No - books are ok so must be the screen. It's making me feel a bit dizzy watching it.
Luc - he looks somewhat suprised!0 -

Either that or have staggered starts, one for the serious runners followed by one for the fun and not confident enough to join the serious ones.
It's also help to stop the idiots that start too far back and then weave through and past people to get to the front like last weekend.
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -

hhhhmmmm, interesting question <maz rubs her chin thoughtfully>
I dunno......
i do sometimes wonder why an elite club runner would want to run in ,for example, the Leeds 10k last week.. when he could more likely get a championship relevent 10k on the same day....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Luc-that is a seriously cute photo!
Hot n sultry here, rained in the early hours-good job I threw a tarp over the top of DH's roofless Land Rover "just in case"...
He's gone back to LHR for part2, then route check to Dubai in the morning and if all goes well, he's FREE for another 6 months.......fingers crossed!!!Debt-free...and staying that way...0 -
And I am back! I look like a pink drowned rat. I only got round the corner, it was raining when i set off but I would have had to swim the rest of the way....i am gutted.
I think there are room for three kinds of races, fun runs, big runs for all, and club run type things....there is a run near me coming up but the last finisher is 65 mins. I am too scared to do that this year, but I might do it next year.

exactly! there are 2 sides to every debate linda.... it was annoying having people barging past, but equally frustrating for them having to dodge people....... it's a combination of fast people starting too far back, and slow people starting too far forward. Something Leeds made no provision for at all.......... Even the arbitrary green/red starts were not enforced.... (not that i'm complaining cause it meant our sal stayed with us!!)
When i did 10k in aberdeen in may, there were barriers for projected finish time... i went into 60-75mins which was possibly a bit optimistic for me (altho not really in the end), and i had no trouble at all... much much better that way.I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Just thought a bit more. I did the Leeds 10k because it was different to the runs that I do round here, they are not so much 'fun' runs as serious runs - which is okay i want to be a serious runner - and I wanted to do one with a bigger field. (so I could get past someone :rotfl:)...Twas very big though
actually I checked out the category race times yesterday - when i get to sixty I have a chance of getting into the top ten...Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

Sally, just caught up on the end of last nights thread, and you mentioned about a TV prog, kids whose parents had terminal illness, and how to prepare for it? You kindly offered to dig out some details on it. Don't worry- I recorded it for her at the time-she just not ready to watch it yet-thanks for the offer though...SRM xDebt-free...and staying that way...0
