  • I will be applying for Sainsbury's credit card, which is 0% on purchases for 12 months, to do a bit of stoozing plus we shop in Sainsbury's and someone told me you get double nectar points when you shop in Sainsbury's, is this true?

Also, I would like the statement date to be on or shortly after the 28th of every month, do you know when I should apply (Sainsbury's customer services told me a couple of days before the 28th but I wasn't convinced!)?

Finally, does anyone know of any freebies or incentives I can get when applying for this credit card? If so, how do I get them?

    Many thanks for any help.

Sorry for the question but I am getting confused as to my best option as I am approaching the end of my 0% on purchases card (with GE Capital) in November and have a balance of £1,600 and really can't afford to pay this off before then.
I have had this card for almost 12 months moving the balance over from another 0% interest free card which I hoped to pay off before my 12 months interest free period was up (as I do each time) but unfortunately haven't. I have had a couple of credit cards over the years and also have a Next store card which I almost always pay the balance of straight away (high interest) but because I get carried away with sale previews etc.. with Next I end up paying this one but not all the balance of my 0% credit cards!! - hence my debt!!! I have never been turned down for a card but with only working 18 hours a week part-time (in a Supermarket) as I have 3 children but also have a small additional income from two part-time casual jobs (also selling on e-bay sometimes too) I don't always have a great deal left over to pay my credit card bills. I do always pay over the minimum amount but still not good enough I know!!
Anyway to get to the point I really need to know if there is a card that will offer me another 0% interest free card on purchases for possibly 10-12 months again but also low/no interest on balance transfers or do I really have to get seperate cards. I am worried that I have had a few cards already and although I don't use them I haven't cancelled any of them (will have to do this soon!!) and am worried I will be turned down. I don't like the idea of having two cards to pay each month and dividing my money up but if this is the only option then I will have to do it!! Any advice please (other than to stop spending!!!) would be really appreciated and I am sorry if this is in the wrong forum??
    Thanks
  • Need some advice for getting my first credit card.

Basically I need to have £1000 in cash to pay for a new front door. Now I have applied and got the Halifax One card and then realised you cant actually just withdraw the money off the card as you get charged. So the new plan is to spend on the card up to the value of £1000 for things like food shopping and car insurance over the next month then just withdraw the money from my account that I would have spent.

Well my question is, if I do this and end up owing £1000 on my credit card, since this is interest free on purchases does that mean I can then over the next 15 months pay say £100 a month onto the card so that after then I will have paid off my debt? Will I not get charged any interest at all if I do this?
  • I've had a HSBC credit card, 0% for 12 months, for just under a month. My question is, how do I know when to pay the monthly payment? Will it show online when it is due, or can I pay before the month is up? I don't want to get hit with charges, I know it may seem like a silly question, but I've never had a credit card before! If I make a payment early, will I still have to make another payment once a month is up?
  • I am on Incapacity Benefit and have a low credit score because I have been having problems with debt. I am an American and not on the electoral role because I can't vote in this country. But I can save money by buying on the net and there are some Elvis things and some Point Horror things which I can't get anywhere else for him, particularly at that price. I could also save a lot on my books, but how do I get a credit card. My bank won't do it because the bank charges keep making me overdrawn and they wont. I don't want to use something like Provident because of the interest rates. What can I do?

If you have a minimum payment set up on your card, does that take care of the need to make a payment on the deadline each month?

The reason I ask is that I have a DD set up which goes out on the 5th, but the deadline for payment is the 4th of the month. So unless it's a month behind, left to it's own devices the account would never be paid each month on time!

  • Capital One have always treated me well, my limit has been increased regularly over the past few years. Then again I always pay them off relatively quickly so I guess they just want to make more money off me hehe
