Hi sorry if this has been covered before.
Im thinking of applying for my 1st credit card and think the Halifax 0% interest on purchases for intro 12 months will suffice. What I dont understand is exactly how this works as when I followed the link to apply, the Halifax summary says it is 0% for 12 months but then goes on to say Interest Free Period 59 days. Can someone please explain the difference between the two.
Also what I want from a credit card, is mainly to pay for a holiday and then pay it off over say 4 or 5 months rather than having to pay the holiday off in one lump sum, so is this card suitable for this?
Thanks in advance
from experience this is classed as any transfers you do within 59 days of getting the card, will be carried onto the 12 months interest free. Not sure though if this mean if you transfer it 30 days after you join you have 12 months - or now 11 months.0 -
Hi all, not sure if im in the right part lol
just wondered if anyone can help......
I have a credit card bal of £3,400 i recently applied to virgin for a card to balance transfer 0% 15th months.
Before doing this i checked my credit rating it was good with a score of 952 out of 1000, (i nvr miss payments ect)
when i called to find out about my apllication they said it had been declined due to allready having a lot of debt......i'd hardley call 6K alot!! I told them i did a credit check and told them my score, they said they dont base it on scores.
I have my own hse good job so why did they refuse me?
Is there anyone else you think would be good, or will i keep getting refused?
has anyone else had this problem?
thanks for your help

Hi,
I'm new to credit cards but have a situation where I will need one I think but i would like some advice on the best course of action to take in my situation.
I'm going to be buying an engagement ring and I want to take advantage of the exchange rate in the US. However, to buy the ring from the US I need a US billing address. I know somebody who lives there so hopefully that will not be a problem but if they buy the ring for me on credit card or out of their bank account what credit cards should I be looking at to pay them back? I'm guessing a balance transfer card would be best to pay his credit card off but if he pays out of his bank account would that still be the best credit card to use?
Hope that makes sense!0 -
Hi there, I want to get a credit card but I'm a single male long term disabled with only income being incapacity benefit of £93.00. my credit rating is fairly good using only 3% or so of available credit yet no job no card. steady income not enough so far.
anyone know a decent card that might/will take me on?
I'm looking to develop some savings to help my finances and need either a cheap loan payable over two years or a card.
thanks0 -
I am on incapacity and have a lousy credit rating, but I got Capital One. I got a £200 limit which is now £500. I only use it for the net.Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you can't get more time0

hi there i wonder if you can help me as i am completely lost in this area. I want to apply for my very first credit card as i will be travelling for a yr starting in november. I need a credit card just for back up incase of emergancies. I am very good with my finances i keep a close eye on my bank accounts online and have savings so im hoping i wont need it but just incase.
As it will be my first credit card and i dont have much of a credit rating as i lived at home until this year. Everything is still in my mums address as i dont want to disrupt everything before i travel.
I was thinking of applying for the abbey zero as this is my main bank. Im worried that if i reply and get rejected this will mess it up for me and i wont have time to apply elsewhere before i leave as i dont want to damage whatever credit rating i have by making too many applications in such a short space of time.
hope this all makes sense and any advice is very much appreciated

Hi - I'm a complete newbie! I have never had a CC before and only buy using cash or Debit Card. However, I have had a few occasions recently where I could only proceed with a transaction by having a Credit Card - car hire abroad - online purchases etc.
Question - can I get a credit card to keep in my wallet until I need it, and will I need to pay anything to keep it but not use it? On those rare occasions when I would use it, I will always pay it off immediately. Therefore, interest rates and cashbacks don't mean a lot. I would need to be able to use it abroad though.
Any help or ideas?0 -

Most Credit Cards don't incur an annual fee for simply holding the card but you would be advised to check with the provider before actually taking on the facility.
As long as you pay your monthly bill in full and ontime you should incur no charges or interest and will benefit from Section 75 protection under the Consumer Credit Act.0 -
:T Thanks for that reply - I'll get one from my own bank then! Cheers:j0
