i wouldnt say a flat of any size, would fall into the starter home category, as i think of 'homes' being a house rather than a flat

Depends how big the flat is. Ours (which we are just selling) is over 1,100 square feet. 2 bed. Victorian conversion (i.e very high ceilings and solid) With garden. Its all in the amount of space (or lack of!) and quality of the build. To me at least.0 -

I live in West London. A house on my street just sold for 1.3 million pounds. So flats it is then!
But as I say, given they are big victorian houses they have lovely proportions (if converted with respect of course). We've loved it here and are sad to go but needs must (schools here not great unless you go private or are happy to go to church for 6 months to prove you are religious when you are, in fact, a screaming athiest!!)0 -
1-2 bed house / 2 bed flatTo me, a starter home is a 2 bed house, having said that if you earn the average wage than and average house should be achievable, I know the bulls don't like that statement much, but it always used to be possible before the 2000 bubble, I should know as I did it, along with friends of a similar age/wage.
Only since the bubble has the talk been of flats, 1 bed flats, studio's and now if Brown had is way, shared ownership flats....... to me this is not an acceptable way to treat our children or grandchildren, why should they suffer for the older generation's greed ?0 -

Don't worry about it, some are fairly snobbish on property.
To me you get what you can afford when you need it. In the end of the day it is a roof over your head and a place to sleep.
If some one says you are not "existing" in a 1 bed they must be fairly materialistic.0 -
