I Can't Afford to Pay Virgin This Month!!!

Ive recently become unemployed and im in the process of looking for work at home we currently have are phone service, digital tv and internet provided by virgin which comes to around £180 per month as we have to two additional boxes for my nan and dad as they are in the house a lots of the time due to medical reasons.

Unfortunetly as money is rather tight at the moment I am unable to pay the full ammount this month we have been with virgin a few years and have yet to miss a payment. We spoke to a member of there team a few days ago to ask if we could pay some of the bill this month an the rest next month but they said they were unable to do that because of the credit crunch!!

I know it may sound rather trivial having so much equipment but as both my nan and dad are restricted to the house it is somewhat of a necessaty any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated ( we are due to be disconnected on friday if we do not pay the bill by then)

I'm not really sure how your bill is as high as £180. I have Virgin with phone and internet and it costs about £25 a month. I always try to use the free weekend/evening calls when I can and send txts to mobiles so my phone bill is about £1 a month. I don't watch TV, but have a freeview box so don't pay for virgin TV.

Is the rest of the money for digital TV? Cancel it and get freeview boxes instead. Each one will cost a £30 one-off cost. You'll just have to make do without the other channels if you cannot afford it. £180 is a huge amount of money going to Virgin every month; I cannot really see how it is sensible to be paying that much.

It would be better if you canceled rather than they had to cut you off as it may affect your credit rating? If you have the full package down grade. If you threaten to cancel they may give you a better deal. As said before £180 is a massive amount to pay monthly?

Agreed with the above response - £180 is a ridiculous amount to be paying out each month - I'm sure your Nan and dad would rather do without the cable tv service than see you with debt recovery agencies chasing you. Food and shelter are necessities - not cable tv.
Not sure how your bill totals that each month even with the two extra boxes?

Yep, as been said already, £180 a month is very steep, I assume you haven't changed packages etc and therefore VM haven't felt the need to negotiate a loyalty discount with you.

If you phone Virgin and ask them to disconnect you, they're more than likely to offer a substantial discount judging by your current bills.

Only once this bill is paid - if they see that there's an outstanding bill it's likely they won't be prepared to let you cancel, let alone offer you anything in terms of a deal sweetener.

Can you sell anything to Cash Converters?

Have you got anything you could take them on The Buy Back Scheme?

Get instant cash for your goods today!

    Here's how Buybacks work:

    • We buy your goods from you, and guarantee you the right to buy the goods back from us within 28 days.
    • We give you cash for your Buyback goods.
    • We will discuss your needs with you.
    • We place the goods in secure storage.
    • Within the next 28 days you can return to buy back your goods for the price we paid you for them, plus an option fee for the service.
    • You can even extend the agreement by a further 28 days with our one-off renewal option - this involves paying the fee at the time of repurchase and at the time of renewal. Unfortunately no further extensions of the Buybacks agreement can be offered.
    • All items will be tested in store at the time of purchase so there will be no recourse to vendor.

    The biggest package (XXL BB, XL TV, XL phone) + V+box + mobile broadband + Sky package (£26) + all !!!!!! (£17) + 2 additional boxes (£10) + Asian channels (£24) + Kids and Disney (£8.50) is £147.50.
Adding mobile phone SIM (£10) it is still below £180 and I suppose you don't have all those channels.
You should thoroughly check what you are paying for.

Virgin TV / Broadband is not a necessity. Keeping a roof over your head and your Nan and Dad is far more important.

a has been said you need to look at what all the £180 was going on!!
its possible ou have had overlapping package and paid for something twice.
i which case you maybe able to haggle a refund to offset your overdue payment
