Someone has made a suggestion on another thread that I think would be an amazing addition to the site.

"I would like to see a feature that shows you have 'thanked' people without actually having to open the post itself, would save me alot of tim with competitions!"
I have wished that there was a way of doing this for ages as it would save so much time.Save £8,000 in 2023 #10: £49,148/ £8,000 :j0 -
Excellent, thanks very much, the changes sound brill, just wish I could see them0

Thanks for this.
What would be really great is an indication in the forum view of whether you have thanked any post in a thread. I don't comp by end date, I sort the forum by "when thread started" order and work from a known point in the past towards the present day - a sort of constant catch-up. I do miss a few late posted or "today only" type posts as a result.
I should really double-check using the sort-by-end-date method. If I could see which posts I had thanked and which not, it would immediately flag up any that I have missed. And I wouldn't waste any time clicking into threads that I know I have either thanked the OP or someone who's pointed out a dupe.
If it is possible, the choice here would be "display icon if thanked on first post in thread" or "display icon if thanked on any post in thread". I imaine the former would be easier to implement (and less onerous on the web/DB servers) but the latter would be my preference.
Anyway, thanks again. Hope the suggestion's not too cheeky! Many tx to all who post constructively in all the forums!:beer:0 -
Sort by end date works for me
I usually sort by whichever way round is quicker, so if its the 29th month, I'd sort from 31 - 1, but if 3rd month, from 1 - 31.
Regarding Nash's comment above, I raised this issue once, and the best advice I was given was to subscribe to each thread, that way you get a marker on the first page to help you see which threads you've been into.
On the subject of thanks, I think it should be MSE law that you thank the op for a competition - perhaps you could ban people from clicking links unless they thank first (see my sig!!!) :rotfl:
Thanks for this VERY useful button Martin - it'll be great :TI'm a nutter :j0 -

These ended on page 17 and the next threads were 01/08
On page 18 the 01/08s ended and 01/09s started followed by 01/10s, 01/11s, 01/12s
On page 20 the 01/12s ended and 02/07s started ????
On page 26 it went from 02/11 to 03/07
This puts comps ending at the end of this month .... 30/06 .... right down on page 163
It looks like the sorting is being done on the day first, then the month so we get all the 01/mm for all months, then all the 02/mm etc.
I also hope someone has taken "wrap round" into account.
As we get towards the end of the year we will be getting comps ending dd/01 and dd/02.
Because there is no year specified these will appear at the top of the list instead of the end.
Either we will have to live with this or the sort will need to wrap anything ending before the current month to the end of the list.
For example in November (month 11) anything ending in a month less than November (01,02,03....) should be at the end because they must refer to the next year.Well, you know, my ancestry isn't all hamster.
I'm one-sixteenth wolf with, you know, a little wolverine in there somewhere.0
