More reaons why not to shop at PC World. Muppets.

I am fuming right now. Listen to this one!

So, from reading the grabbit quick board i found out about this amazing laptop case for £24.99 reduced from £80 on pc world online! Wow!
http://froogle.google.co.uk/froogle_cluster?q=Antler+LEATHER+laptop+case&pid=4839798899833672930&oid=17615185592112477356&btnG=Search+Froogle&scoring=mrd

Proof's in that link :)

I got a new laptop today so needed that case.. wait.. relied on that case.

I reserved online to collect at store (which it said was in stock). I printed off the slip and went into the store. Some guy (looked about 19 and tbh, pretty intelligent at the time) took my slip and went to get the case.

LITERALLY 15 minutes of waiting alone (which can seem very long for waiting..) the guy comes back holding some piece of sh*t case.. saying "Sorry we don't have the one you want, but we have this one instead which I can do you for the same price"

Well i was never going to take it.. I said "How much is that case retail price?" He replied with £40 to £50.

Now, you don't need to be doing a degree in maths to realise that by taking his stupid proposal i'd be losing nearly £40 in value.. which is more than what i'd be paying for the case in the first place!!!!

So I told him theres no way im taking that offer.. and he stood and looked at me saying nothing.. and im like.. ok... so then I say "not good enough im afraid".. and he just looks at me not talking!! THIS IS CUSTOMER SERVICE!?!??!!

I have to reach to take the reserve slip out of his hand and walk out! And he still didnt say a bloody word.

Absolutely disgusting service there. And what's worse.. if it'd had been someone less pedantic like myself, and buying a case for like a relative, they may not have realised the value difference and would have been COMPLETELY ripped off on the offer!

I just rang the main pc world, and they told me a manager would ring me back ASAP. I couldnt complain at the time cos i was too angry.. home now so will do it nice and composed.

I needed that bloody case as well for tomorrow morning :/ Am i going to have to drive 40 mins to stoke to get it? ridiculous.

Ok you are angry here but I think you are going too over the top angry here.

They may have been showing as stock but it may have been phantom stock or been stolen? When I worked in retail what showed in stock on the system could differ by the odd one.

I can understand your frustration but you hadnt actually paid for the item and they did try and find an alternative for you which they were going to offer at the same price.

They didn't have the one you wanted and offered you a different one at half price? Really poor Customer service? Poor collect@store system maybe...

Erm ok.. can't you see how if I had accepted the offer, I would have been basically ripped off out of £40???!!??! surely u can do the maths?

£80 case for £25.. they dont hav the £80 one in conveniently, so they offer me £40 one at £25 hoping I accept? Erm.. ok.. a replacement is a replacement.. but this was different material, different make.. it was a downgrade!

I know its only a laptop case but its very important I have it tomorrow and pre ordered it yesterday all nice and happy knowing its there for me!

Then the cheek of the guy! Im sorry, but you dont stand there and say nothing just looking at them.. you.. i dno, try and reason, say they understand my frustration.. that type of thing.. but to make it awkward i felt like he was as annoyed at me for entering the store!!!

I used to work at Maplins and we would have got a right rollocking for that type of customer service. For a start if your promised something as a reserve and then it can be done, the manager would personally offer something even better at the lower price!

I was offered something completely worse!

    Look at the aspects here..

    Problems:
    1) Collect@store system - i understand systems have problems. I'd accept this if it was kindly exlained at the time :/

    2) An offer for a worse item, with worse value which would have meant a rip off for any-one who hadn't researched prices previously (i.e most the buying public..)

    3) A man who left me waiting for ages with no word, and then stood and looked at me without saying anything for 5 minutes with a tired attitude. Not helpful. Not good.. and i did not walk out that store smiling.

And yes i'm angry. Yes i'm prob too over the top.. but 1) i needed that case.. 2) i hate muppets who take jobs for granted and act like !!!!!! and 3) i'm still waiting (2 hours later) for the manager to ring me back

Its not good enough that service. And if they dont offer me something worth the same value.. meh, its just nasty.

No probs for the find urban... it is a good case if you can get ur mits on it! for me its just stressing me out :P

Sorry but you'd have saved £55 if they'd had the original one in, you'd have saved £15 (or £25) with the alternative. You'd have been ripped off for £40 if they'd tried to charge you £80 (or £90) for the alternative

The original one was a very good saving, but as we've found on many other items you sometimes have to be lucky to get them.

My guess would be that "computer says one" so he had to go root round the stock room. I've had similar experiences at PCWorld, Comet, and Maplins by the way and have generally not been offered any alternative. Maybe he should have said "sorry, nothing more we can offer"?
  • I bought one of the cases for £25 and in my opinion that is all they are worth. It makes no odds that is was origionally 80 as no one would pay that for it. I ended up with a targus leather one with a cordless mini mouse for 40 that is much nicer. They said in store that it had been 80?

You refer to prices before the offer?..

If the £80 case isn't available.. would you take the £40 one for the same price (£25)? Or would you go buy online but have to wait a few days..

Quite obviously the latter option. Which is the best option. But this guy was trying to sell a worse one for the same price thus the customer would have been worse off?

You don't have to be lucky at all really... in fact its nothing to do with luck. I was promised the case on the order form online.. so thats what i should receive right? Nowhere does it say "it might not be in stock" lol.. if it did, it would be a different story.

I could have ordered it online today and paid a few bob more for next delivery, thus i'd have it tomorrow. Instead I took the convenience of going and getting it that day, but been disappointed and not really helped.

As i said I also have a problem with the way the guy treated me... i mean come on.. he offered me something for bad value in the end, and he just stood there giving me evil looks? Like cos i'm not a 30 year old guy in a suit i'm just another person wanting another product end of story.

The whole point of good customer service is that you leave smiling.

If he apologised sincereley, offered me and apologised due to the offer being undervalued but its all he can do, and sympathise, then i would have gone out thinking "Oh well, bug in system, nice fella.. fine.."

But no.. instead I went out a bit peed off, and with no reason to go back?

Thanks for the info I will cancel the order.

Did wonder why the only shops that are selling it for £80 are part of the Dixons group.

Have you not thought that maybe he didn't know the original price of the case you ordered, so by offering a more expensive one for the same price he probably thought that he was giving you a good offer. The could be why he didn't say anything, might have been shocked
