  • The free P&P thing on a 99p listing is a real shame and it means that there is now quite a lot of stuff which I won't be listing on ebay as a result. It's a bit patronising of ebay to justify it on the grounds that some sellers charge unfair P&P - one assumes that most buyers are intelligent enough not to buy an item if the seller is charging excessive P&P. To penalise low cost items in this way can surely only lead to a loss in sales in these categories.

The days of ebay being the largest car boot sale in the world are now numbered I suspect.

I'll now be taking my mobile phone charger to a car boot sale, along with a few bits and pieces of clothes, an old camera case, a pair of kids sunglasses, camera case, spare brand new SIM card, a wifi compact flash card from a PDA, the unused PDA and accessories, 20m tv cable, and some old magazines.

Shame on you ebay - you've lost quite alot of possibly fees from me. Most of those items would have only been listed at 99p so the extra cost together with the time taken to photograph, upload photos, package the item, weigh and calculate a REASONABLE postage, create and upload listing, print a packing slip, seal the package and then take it to the post office to post means that there is absolutely no point in doing all that for what would be less than 50p after all costs and fees.

If ebay was really concerned about inflated P&P charges they could have put a cap of say 99p on postage for certain small lightweight items instead of forcing sellers to offer free P&P leaving them quite possibly out of pocket for selling second-hand low priced items.

You can see if fees are going to be incurred before you click to change and should be able to scroll back and cancel the revision if so.

I'm just off to check my own photos, just in case!

Did anyone find out if this is the case? I listed a few (genuine) bits minus photos and descriptions as I was going out last night and wanted to revise them this weekend.
  • OK - to answer my own question I've successfully revised (added pics and text) an item listed yesterday for free with no additional fees. Hooray!
(ps - I didn't change the category so don't know if this would incur fees.)

It's not actual clothing yet, just clothing accessories.....quite confusing really. I just relisted some unsold items and had a message come up that I had not completed necessary fields. In the last two weeks they have become a little more dictatorial on the postage front and you now have to enter a dispatch time! I want to know what happens if you don't do it in the specified time. Do they send people around to your house to shoot you?

Why not just list them at a higher start price to cover postage and pay the small listing fee incurred? The phone charger will almost definitely rise in price. My son starts all his stuff at 99p as he has a theory that everything finds its level. He has had items go up over £200 from a 99p start. Obviously it depends what it is!

Changing the category partway through a listing shouldn't make any difference as long as you remember to cancel out the first, or you will be charged for a second. On a Buy it Now item you can even revise the cost and postage with no extra charges.
