Does anyone know if the free listing offers start at midnight on Wednesday? I have a really busy day planned Tursday so wouldn't be able to list anything, but I would be happy to stay up later on the Wednesday and do it then...

It'll start at as soon as Thursday begins if that makes sense  so if you've got some items to list then wait up late on Wednesday night.

Alternatively you could schedule a start time for 6p if that helps.

We used to have a lot of fun messing around on ebay selling bits and pieces from the house, and every now and then they would have a 5p or free listing day as a bonus. It was set up for people like us but has now become more for businesses, and with the mandatory free postage you have to risk a loss starting at 99p, pay 40p for Buy it Now, or pay a listing fee for a higher start price. Then of course the included postage now attracts ebay final valuation fees (which keep creeping up) as well as Paypal fees, so if you sit down and work out what you actually make it is rarely worth the time and effort you put in. The Paypal fee in itself would not be so bad, but with that 20p per item extra, cheaper things are not worth the bother. Thanks ebay for ruining a great idea! We have gone back to using the local paper and Trade-It online and have had some successes there for free.

Be careful not to fall into their little "extras" trap as nothing is free! Look carefully at all the enhancements offered and they all add to the cost. The only thing that is now free anyway and that is worth having is the gallery picture. we have been selling for years and never used any of their "gadgets", simply a good title and then a fancy font for the description. My advice to new sellers is that if you are in any doubt about what you are paying, check the listing cost on the final screen before you finally commit and hit the "List your item" button. At that point you can still go back and edit the listing and take off charged extras. Also, when choosing categories be careful not to select more than one as it will cost extra. A friend of ours ran up fees of over £100 as he was listing expensive electrical items at high prices, each in several categories, without realising. As with everything, tread carefully and don't get stung!

What you can do is make up your listing and then schedule it for a couple of days away or next week even. Then tomorrow go into your scheduled item, revise the item and change the starting date to start immediately.

If you want to write long descriptions the easiest way is to open a Word document and save them on it, then when you come to list, open it and keep it on your bottom toolbar, then simply copy and paste your description into the box on ebay. This also means you can prepare listings way in advance and list when it is convenient. Hope this helps!

Download Turbo Lister . Then you can do all your auctions in your own time and upload when you want to list them or schedule them for a certain time although that will cost you money. Get Turbo Lister from the help pages .

good idea, but would I be charged.....i.e if I schedule for sat and it charges me 6p, then I amend, do I not still lose the 6p?

    :)

For those thinking of listing something on thursday, it would seem that you can list in 2 categories for free, as listing in 2 cats usually doubles the insertion fee. Worth knowing.

No, you will only be charged if you let the auction start at the scheduled time/ day - eg Sat.
If you change it tomorrow to start straight away then you won't be charged, just don't forget that you need to start the listing otherwise you will be charged.
But if you forget and remember on Friday then you can cancel the scheduled listing.
