barclays cash card account

well this lunch time i went to barclays to open a basic cash card account after being made BR on friday. i was even expecting them to say no:eek:. i went in, told the lady at the customer service desk i wanted a cash card account and that i was BR on friday, no problem she said take a seat.

She said she could set up an account in branch today and was ok as it would take 35 minutes, anyway.... they set me up with a cash card account with a connect visa debit card that i could use online and all shops (no O/D or cheque book obviously):j:j. They had NO issue with me being BR even the assistant manager was talking to me about it being really friendly and said its common these day.

I was really surprised how supportive the branch staff were, made my day and put a smile on my face, anyway just thought i'd let you know :T

    That's great news!

It's a great account if you don't need online access as although you may be able to access online banking for a few weeks, it will get taken away from you once the BR marker is updated on the system. You'll get it back when you're discharged though :)

dont take a word of what barclays tell you seriously.....most undischarged BR's have been given everything you have and as sieve said soon as the BR marker is added to your account you'll loose the online bit.....apparently its down to not having systems in place to stop you applying for od's etc...

  • oh good, im not really bothered about the online banking bit, ive never used it
  • I am currently having a battle with Barclays regarding online banking. Although they admit that bankrupts should be allowed access to online banking, they need to get a new system programme in place to allow access to the online banking once the bankrupcty marker has been added. This is currently preventing people having access.

I have been told that I am the only customer to complain about this which I don't believe. I am filling in forms for the Financial Ombudsman but would appreciate it if anyone who is disgruntled about losing the online banking could also phone or write to Barclays to complain. Thanks all.

I applied for on-line banking access once discharged-but they still refused;so frankly, unlike one of the above posts-i don't think you get access to on line banking post discharge.

Has anyone successfully got on line banking after discharge with barclays ?

    its good business for them

a possible 180,000 accounts a year that cannot possibly go into debt, if the average holding was £50 thats almost a million a year, times by about 5 (years) thats a cool risk free £5,000,000 they can lend out at 10%....
