Cats!!!!!

Rubber brooms, like the ones they use in hair salons, are great for pet hair! JML do one for about a fiver that you can get in Woolies etc, or you can often find them in beauty supply shops (like Sally) that sell to salons, and they even work on carpet. My mum uses one to clear up after our extremely hairy border collie.
But I'm with Moggins on this - I'd lose the boy before the cat, and he knows it!

You can occasionally get the rubber brooms in poundland or home bargains. Have you tumble dried your sheets? This should get most of the hairs out.

Hate to be a pain in the proverbial, but the allergy isn't triggered by hair its the dander or skin proteins that do it and the only way of getting rid of them is to steam clean.
My sister is very allergic and she had to have her whole house steam cleaned before she could move in even though it had been professionally hoovered beforehand.
Hoovering does reduce the airborne amount but if your bf really is that allergic it might be good to hire a decent steam cleaner and wah any fabrics (if they can take it) at 140 degrees

Was funny to see this thread pop-up - I posted in August I think!

Well, in the end I did the old wet-rubber-glove thing on my carpet and sofa and it worked a treat. I think that the fact the cats weren't there anymore and copious amounts of hoovering did the trick. OH did have to take a few allergy pills the first few times he stayed, but they really worked (before they barely touched it!)

Moggins and Math - I did hear a few comments about how it would be easier/more sensible/more humane to keep the cat and loose the man but what can I say! It's love! I'm even moving to Holland next month (and will have to OS his house.......)

I once worked with a girl who wanted a cat, got one, was devastated to discover she was allergic. Went to a homeopath and got a homeopathic preparation of cat dander - problem solved - one ecstatic cat owner and no more allergic reaction!

My husband was allergic to cats when we first met. Fortunately I discovered Petalclense for cleaning the cat. I kept forgetting to clean the cat for long periods of time until eventually I was able to stop completely. Husband is no longer allergic to the cat - I bless the day I found Petalclense I would have hated to have ditched my (now) husband!
