Thats the BEST place you could go to Anne :)
  • ....I had another call yesterday from Churchwood asking if I'd received 'the paper work' for a DMP. I'd initially said on the phone I would need to see things in writing before commiting myself. So, paper work was sent, I looked at it, read reviews online and the alarm bells started to ring...not a good plan to sign up with them...as I said before, I'd had a chat with the CCCS which was really helpful and they offer a DMP with no fee attached. SO long story short (kind of!)...Churchwood rang again yesterday to chase up the paperwork, I said I wasn't interested and had been in touch with the CCCS who provided the same thing without any fee attached. Today I received a letter from Churchwood saying my first payment of £250 is due on 1st August and they say they have been in touch with my creditors. I have not given any of my personal banking details to Churchwood, have never agreed to anything over the phone, not signed anything nor handed over any monies. Though I have stated who my creditors are and in a general, ball park figure sort of way outlined my debts with each. I will send a response to this letter, but I wanted to check is this letter likely to be a way of making me sign up rather than anything with any legal weight attached as I've not agreed to anything?

    Anne,

If its been within 7 days since they receive a cancellation letter from you they WON'T TAKE A PENNY from you. As I've said above I returned a cancellation letter and held on to the paperwork they sent me back - the address is on the paperwork.

Yesterday 3 days from original phone call with them they TEXTED! me that it was cancelled. However next week I will be contacting my bank to ensure no such payment is going to be taken out of my account or is lined up to do so from them, as a precaution. I suggest you do the same!

You have every right in stopping any payment going ahead its YOUR account and YOUR money.

    :)

I too was taken in by [TEXT DELETED], I was told that I had been "accepted " for a loan of £20,00 and sent them the "administration Fee" of £49.99.

I then received forms for a loan for £3000 at an exorbitant APR.

when I complained I was given the usual "fob Off" .

I managed eventually to get the fee refunded in full but only after I threatened to take the matter up with a friend who is a solicitor.

Another company to be wary of is No Worries Loans, they offer a so called Gold Service which is nothing more than a scam to con often desperate people out of money.

I've had a similar experience as other people with Churchwood who offered me an IVA which I can't commit to at present.

Due to past problems my credit score is non existent and I still have defaults showing on my credit report so the usual avenues are not open to me.

I think it's really terrible that these companies are allowed to exploit vulnerable people in this way.

Blimey It's a right pavlova isn't it! I'm 99% sure I didn't give any bank details over the phone and I didn't send or sign anything on paper either, BUT I think I shall take your advice and contact my bank and I'll also pop a letter in the post to them.
    Thanks

    Wonga - 2,689% APR.

As far as I know the highest APR from an apparently legal lender (ie not the dodgy ones with baseball-bats).

Unbelievable and so smug about it!!

    Cheers!

I rang them up previously but I cannot for the life of me remember what they said to me. Either way they couldnt help me as I still havent got a loan lol Sometimes brokers say they don't charge you but their lenders charge you which is another way these companies get you. Ask them about this you should ask for paper work, check out APR additional charges etc

I don't think Wongas APR is so bad because they only let you borrow upto £200 upto 30 days for £66. Obviously a larger amount of money over a longer time scale would be daylight robbery. BUT whether they are a ligitimate company, I don't know!
