Thousands of pounds owed to glasgow city council - help me!

Dear all,
I am hoping you can offer some advice.
My car has accumulated literally thousands of pounds of parking fines. Although the car is registered to me, it is used by my entire family. Although this car is registered to my parents address in Glasgow, I live in London (for work) and have done for the last year or so although I travel to Glasgow frequently. I have mal forwarding for any letters addressed to me. However these reminders have been coming and as they are addressed to a Mr with 1 incorrect letter of the last name (which is 4 letters, and I am a miss) they have been piling up and noone has bothered paying any attention as they didnt think they were addressed to any family member!!!
2 weeks ago a sheriff came to the address in Glasgow and handed in signed for letter address to me (first full name correct last name still incorrect, however first full name was not present in all the reminders) and this letter has stated that my earnings could be arrested & other action taken against assets.
PLEASE HELP! I have asked countless people but noone has been able to give me any advice on what exactly to do?
You input would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

1) I know its frowned upon but in a case like this a post on pepipoo will get help from known legal eagles or a direct to the correct place.
2) get legal advice from a solicitor versed in Scots law, a lot is different to English law.
I hope it all turns out well in the end.
Stop others from using your car, as they cannot be trusted to hold their end up, well they got the fines in the first place.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
As Peter says.
Also check out 'bailiffadviceonline'. I'm not sure what they are like for Scottish cases but a fantastic site for bailiff matters generally.
In England there would certainly be something you could do. With Scottish Law often more sensible I imagine there is an equivalent.
In effect, with the address errors you did not receive statutory documents. You may be a/ble to suspend Sheriff action -- BUT -- as Peter says, Scottish law and the procedure will be different. 'PePiPoo' will know.
There have been several cases similar to yours on here and can I just emphasise something.
Most of those have been given detailed advice and never advised the outcome or asked for clarification. Maybe some buried their heads in the sand, disappointed that resolution requires a bit of leg work or maybe just rude.
Please don't do the same!!!0 -

I did notice that after some very detailed advice the outcome was not on many posts. Neil, I am not shy of hard graft especially when it will save me thousands plus the stress! I had a glance at Pepipoo but only seems like the website is for motoring offenses such as speeding etc?
I wish I were English just now

Eh? It has a dedicated parking forum and wins more cases than any other site I'm aware of!

Probably no good when your commiting insurance fraud and fraud by having a car registered to someone who seems to barely use it.0

I'm afraid this post is the reason why I suggested the OP goes to Pepipoo, they at least try to help without having a dig at them. How on earth does this help the OP get out of her /his problem?LinasPilibaitisisbatman wrote: »Probably no good when your commiting insurance fraud and fraud by having a car registered to someone who seems to barely use it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

There's no law that says that you cannot insure somebody elses vehicle if it is registered to them. Your reaction is typical of the fronting/fraud brigade who shout before thinking.
I drive my friends car on occasions using day insurance. It's registered to him and yet I am insuring it.The man without a signature.0 -

Is there a law that says the owner should know who the driver is at any one time? Not Again0 -

I am willing to put money on whatever insurance arrangements are in place for this car are fraudulent.
I also am highly sceptical about the motives of the ownership of the car in the first place.0 -
Are the tickets from Scotland or London0
