I just want an idiot proof thingy that tells me how far I have run, how fast and whether I went up or down hills slowly or fast...I have absolutely no faith in my own 'feeling' of how fast or slow I am running. I agree with Sally the Nike+ thing is a bit 'basic'.
I have resisted buying a garmin for months thinking that I might grow out of running, but after every run I spend ages planning the next one, so I am thinking that I may still be running long enough to get some use out of it. I even bought some running shorts this morning with a pocket in it so my phone doesn't get sweaty anymore....
See if I had had a garmin I could have saved my phone yesterday:D
Maybe I am being thick - but surely thats what a watch does...:D
You run a route you have mapped and you know roughly where the miles are so you can work out from that and previous runs on the same route how fast you are going...then in races you just use the mile/km markers to do the same but more accurately...
In my head to pass time I often 'add' miles - internally this goes on in my head:
okay so I've run mile one at 12 minutes and its 20 minutes and I'm at mile 2 so my pace is increasing - check breathing, sweatiness and maybe slow down a little since I have another couple of miles to go...
That kind of thing - it means you always know where you are and what you are doing pace wise, effort level wise etc etc, then I can confirm and adjust when I get home and have measured my HR and recovery times
But again if you feel it will help you then do it - not trying to put anyone off - but its a lot of money to spend I think and I run every day when in full training, they do re-sell well on ebay as well so if you dont like it you can always sell it
I love my shorts with pocket for my house keys btw:D, stops sweaty palms

I've won nowt either

I do that to pass the time becky - I have my runners world watch but gave up on it cos I kept forgetting to press buttons when I am supposed to. I also don't want to be too preoccupied with how fast or how slow I am going while i am running (unless I am in a race) but would like to know when I have finished.....
I also have a slight problem with short term memory so probably couldn't remember my times from one k to the next.
Edit: I didn't think I needed one which is why I thought I would be quite happy with my nike+ but its just missing something....I was going to be good and and 'earn' the garmin but as it was my birthday last week and OH is still waiting for me to say what I want I think thats what I will have..
Edit to add again: I used to look at a marker and then look at my phone to see how fast I had gone in between that and the last marker...but thats how it got broke yesterday......sweaty cleavage!Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

It is "at least" 6 months DD - not sure if she's intending to come back full time, there's a lot of job share in the company (it's NHS), which I find strange, as I've never worked anywhere before that does job shareEarlier than what Inky - are you contracted for a certain amount of time.....deep breath and ask the !!!!!.......

I was always told I'd be here until "at least" the end of August, she was originally due to take a year off but is now looking to come back after 6 months
It's all a bit complicated, cos the job I'm doing, the women is still here & she in turn is covering the maternity role - IYSWIM
There's been muttering's about 3 "new" posts but they're dependant on funding being made available.
With regards to miserable women, you're probably right but I reckon she'd still find something to complain about :rotfl::rotfl:Don't Take Life too Seriously - Nobody gets out alive :rotfl:0 -
I've won nowt either
Why does your role end Bookie?
It's a 5 year commission Luc and should end then. There was some thought that it would be extended to end of the centenary events as we would be very involved in the preparations and any likely sucessors would be too busy to take over at that time.0 -

That involves a level of conscious thought I don't usually achieve whilst running! :rotfl:
I really do zone out sometimes to the point where I'm only vaguely aware that I'm putting one foot in front of the other. On Sunday, I 'lost' about 3k altogether, one minute I was just leaving Leeds city centre, the next I was past the halfway point. I couldn't tell you how I got there, or what I'd been thinking!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
