http://192.168.1.1/ gives access to your routers control panel. You have to set up your encryption in there.

If you type ipconfig you'll see an entry for default gateway. That's the address of your router.

This may be of help http://www.adslguide.org.uk/hardware/reviews/2004/q3/netgear-dg834g.asp it is a review of your router and gives some helpful set up advice. The router address on this is the one you originally tried to connect to so please ignore my router address.

  • Hi,

You should not be typing in Http:// etc it should only be the IP address (E G - 192.168.0.1)

I'm also surprised that no-one has mentioned that you need to set your connection up as LAN in the internet connection window.

My final point is it that it is quite possible to have the firewall on your PC enabled as well as the firewall on your router.

    Best of luck

The default is http://192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.1, you need to be able to connect to the router config screen to be able to setup security, and you need to make changes using the wired connection, not wireless.

Post a ipconfig /all report if you are still struggling.

For privacy reasons, I'd remove the physical address lines, and host name, and the last line, and the other C:\Documents and Settings line (5th)....

    Try http://80.218.136.1

How did you setup the network, they are wierd numbers.
your TCP/ip should be using dhcp, and the numbers should be something like this:

    Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes

    Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.3 (or .2, .4)

    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

    DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

    DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
