Correct - Nationwide make no charges in Europe. Turkey is in their Europe list. The exchange rate is also normally the best going.

They also make no charges in any country that uses the € as currency - which means parts of the Caribbean for example!

Yes, they make no charges but the exchange rate is not very good. You are better probably doing a commission free deal in the UK if possible. I went to Barcelona beggining of June and the rate was 0.91! Course with no charges! Maybe someone can post if they got a better rate than this?
    Happy :)

With the Nationwide Flex Account you get the bank rate of exchange - so I am not sure how you could expect to do better on any given day?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

A commission free deal in the UK (Post Office, etc) will cost you typically a 5% hit on the exchange rate. A commission free deal at an ATM in a European resort with Nationwide will cost you a 0% hit on the same exchange rate.

I really am dubious about your 0.91. It doesn't make sense. Nationwide's rate at the beginning of June should have been around 1.10. Or maybe your rate was expressed the other way round - 0.91 £ per euro - which is around 1.10 euros per £ .

Dzug1, you may be right. I just remember seeing 0.91 and thinking eeekkk!

I will remember that for the future.

You should be able to check when your statement comes.

I will do as I am going away in September and if the exchange rate was good, then I will definately do that in September!
Easier than worrying about loosing the cash.

You can check the amount that you will receive for any given day when using your Flex a/c Debit Card HERE (enter 0 in the 'Enter bank fee' box).

Your Barcelona rate (if you find that you did actually receive 0.91) may be explained in the 3rd question/answer in the Travel Money Q & A - you may have erroneously selected the ATM operator's rate rather than the prevailing Visa rate.
