I second that! the guy next to the art gallery (city square) is the best one in my opinion (and ive been on hundreds of ghost walks- uk and internationally). He's not gimmicky at all.

I found out the other day that there is a nuclear bunker from the cold war era you can go visit. Looks great! great history. Gonna try and book to go in next few weeks. Any reviews of that?

Took my son to York for the day for his 13th birthday in Nov 2007. We went to the Dungeons & I have to say it was the best! My son came out of the place saying it was great - high praise from a teenager!!
    NEVER ASSUME!

I wouldn't take my eight year old (very sensitive soul) to the Dungeon but if yours is up for a scare or two, go for it! We loved the Castle Museum, Railway Museum, ramble round the Shambles and a service at the Minster if possible. I know they are expensive but the Sightseeing Bus was a great way to see the City as well and kids just love it as well.

    Have a wonderful time.

I'd agree that the York Dungeon is not particularly suitable for under 10's. My 8yr old got about 1/5 the way round and we had to bail out of an emergency exit and he's not the sort that scares easy.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've not been to York for a while and this thread is making me want to book a hotel and go sometime soon!

Wow, read your thread with interest as we are off to York for a week soon too. Staying about 14 miles out of York in Burythorpe House as we thought we could do York and Scarborough. Have a lovely time on your hols, and to all the wonderful posters who gave you all their tips on places to eat, things to do etc etc, thank you, I am going to take notes! Have been to York once but about 10 years ago and I think I do remember being shocked at the car parking prices as we are pretty lucky up here in the North of Scotland for that! Thank you all. I'm getting excited again! :rotfl:
