Anybody know why they have gone up this much?
Spanish Government increased tax by 19 cents, the tobacco companies applied the rest.
If it is any consolation the tobacco companies applied a large increase a couple of years ago but due to the strong response from the Spanish people and the large reduction in sales the price was reduced fairly quickly, it may happen again.
  • i am a non smoker but it really annoys me how people are against smokers.the people in my family are all hard workers pay their taxes and insurances and enjoy ciggys and then you get people like yourself who do nothing but keep running down people who smoke DO YOU PAY FOR THEM ?

Hopefully it will deter the Spanish from smoking!! There is no wonder people stop going to Spain who do not smoke when you take your children for a meal in a restaurant in a lovely setting-only for a group(or 10!) to sit next to you and all start smoking!

I hate the stuff and always have.

WHY do the anti smokers come in to a thread that has NAFF ALL to do with them and start their bleedin whining:mad::mad:

Because smokers insist on joining us in bars and restaurants and ruining the atmosphere. AND we are forced to pay to treat the diseases they give themselves!

maybe things have changed, but when i was in spain last year bars and restaraunts had a choice whether they were a smoking place or non smoking they displayed a certificate on their doors, so those people who object on here about smokers should identify a non smoking place instead of sitting among smokers then complaining about them.or maybe stay in england if they dont like the laws on smoking in other countries.

yes you are right,bars/restaurants that are 100sqm or less can nominate to be either or and as you say must display a sign outside on the door, stating,Fumar(smoking)or No Fumar(no smoking) thereby everyone gets the choice.

some of the places opt for a 'mix' normally no smoking inside and smoking on the terrace:beer:

  • Guys,

You are quite correct about the laws in Spain and I am well aware of the signs displayed as I speak Spanish and have lived there for many years.

First of all I would like to apologise if my replies have been slightly offensive as this is not my style and so I retract that. And you are correct that really I should not reply to this thread as it was about prices and not opinions- so again I would like to say sorry. And this will be my last response on this thread.

However regarding Spain, I and my family have on many occasions checked out smoking and non-smoking bars and then we choose what looks like a nice restaurant to sit on the terrace and enjoy a meal. The no smoking signs are well displayed and we feel confident that we can enjoy our meal and the smokers have found somewhere to enjoy their meal - so everyone is happy.

BUT!!!!!!!!! Then a couple of smokers come along with no regard for the law whatsoever- English, Spanish, anyone really. They sit near you and light up whilst ordering, then nicely put their cigarette your way so it does not affect them and then continue smoking during and between each meal! So that is why it gets to me. It happens all the time and I am afraid that in Spain at the moment it is one thing to say no smoking but quite another to implement it!!!

So once again sorry to all you smokers- enjoy your vice and hopefully we can all be separated at meal times!!!

Yes sadly there are some really ignorant inconsiderate smokers out there,I spend a lot of time in Spain myself and have had it happen when my friends and I are having a meal, but we are hefty type's and a quick word and they move or put it out:rotfl:
