OMG It says here in the thread you have posted

According to Carlos in Tossa, its down to the government, even domingo which was 1.85 40g is now 3.40......

    Seems its gone up loads...

I think it will be back down again. There is a survey of prices here.

    It says here
June 2009 - Ouch! Once again prices have risen in Spain. Golden Virginia has gone up from 3.50 euro to 4.85 euro a pack (it happened a few years ago, but prices quickly dropped back once sales declined). Drum is up from 3.00 to 4.60 euro. Benson and Hedges is now 3.40 euro. With the sterling price expected to drop in Belgium soon, Adinkerke seems to be coming back into favour.

Official prices are still dated 4th July and GV is still listed as €4.85 for Tabac or €5.58 from supermarket.

I noticed that this was the price in the "Duty Free" area shopping in Alicante. It was cheaper in the Eurotabac in Benidorm, 48.50 Euros for 10 packs.

Never buy airside at the airport in Spain

Buy it all in the Tabacs which are about 20%
    cheaper.

There is an official Tabacs just over from arrivals in the Car Park at Alicante which will charge the official price, the so called " Duty Free " ( read Rip Off ) always charge more.

I always have a little giggle when I see the Brits clutching their little yellow " Duty Free " bags with ciggies in at the airport, not even realising that they had just paid through the nose for them.
