WARNING - Tobacco price jump in Spain

If you are planning to stock up on tobacco while on holiday be warned the price has increased noticably this week. A selection of the old and new prices are:
DRUM 50g……………………………………........…..3.50 € Now 4.50
GOLD LEAF 50g……………………......…………2.50 € Now 4.40
GOLDEN VIRGINIA 50g.................3.50 € Now 4.85

Cigarette have gone up about €4.00 per 200.

Below is a link to the official prices, charged across Spain and the Balaerics. The 1st column is the price in Official Tabaccos shops, the 2nd column is the price from vending machines in bars etc. Click on cigarillos for ciggies and Picadura de liar for baccy

Probably because the Spanish economy is broken and they see this as an ideal opportunity to raise tax revenues from tourists.

Plus it's probably an opportunity to reduce demand. (and yes I used to be a smoker).

Hopefully it will deter the Spanish from smoking!! There is no wonder people stop going to Spain who do not smoke when you take your children for a meal in a restaurant in a lovely setting-only for a group(or 10!) to sit next to you and all start smoking!

I hate the stuff and always have.

Anyone know the prices of GV in portugal. We were going to nip into spain but I don't thimk it will be worth it now.

You can find a lot of prices for tobacco on this site, either click on the adverts and the shops have their price lists or there is often an editorial on most countries giving their prices (It is not always bang up to date as the prices can change a lot)

In Germany the other week 40gr pouches of Golden Virginia were 5.05 euros a pack.

A good alternative to GV is Domingo green. You do get used to it and it works out about £1.80 per 40g pack. Our friends always get it for us and also my father in law lives in Corsica .and comes over with some for us.

Have to see how much that has gone up to. Someone is going out there soon so hopefully will find out.
