Congratulations chopsticks. Look forward to the BS.
Huge congratulations to Moneymaker and Dylan. By the time you get round to reading this, he'll probably be home already. I hope all goes well for him in the future. As others have said, being aware early that you need to be vigilant for an increased risk is a good thing (though it doesn't feel that way when you are told at the time!) because all the neural pathways are being formed in the brain in the first two years, and there is a lot that can be done in the early years, which can't in the later years just because the brain is so plastic. In fact there is an incredible story which the medics always trot out of a little one who was born with half her brain missing, but by the age of 2 she was able to walk and talk and meet a lot of her milestones, because the bit of the brain she had worked so hard to compensate, and lots of very unusual but very functional neural pathways were formed.
For the lady who was asking about depression in pregnancy, I think its important to remember that you can feel depressed for short periods occasionally without actually being clinically depressed. I've had a few very bad days over the course of the last couple of weeks, but I haven't had a prolonged period of days when I've been depressed constantly, and the doctor agrees with me that I'm not clinically depressed atm, but that I do need to keep an eye on things and not overdo it, and to seek help if I need it. I might be unusual, but I found when I had PND that as soon as the diagnosis of depression was given, I felt a lot worse, as if my mind suddenly felt it was OK to give up completely, and I only started to recover when I could convince myself that I was able to do things which my depressed self told me I couldn't. So for me at least a PMA goes a long way in getting through the down days.0 -

Congratulations Chopsticks!! Another Caitlin, wow! Strange how few girls we have here, and yet that name is clearly the most popular!! Hope all is well for you and your DD. x
Congrats to MM too! You must be delighted. Well done. x0
