Have you actually tried the new TV with the aerial in the living room to rule out whether the new TV is faulty? If it does not work in the living room a new aerial in the bedroom won't make any difference.

Have you re-scanned the TV since the switchover?

BTW .. There is no such thing as a " digital aerial ".
  • Its def the ariel when the tv was installed it worked fine in the living room.
I did wonder about digital ariels - didn't think there was one (I was just going by the websites - sorry)
Yeh re-scanned last night and got channels they just break up a bit, whereas before the switch over I couldn't get a single digital channel.
Heard that metal ariels are the best, been looking online today but not found without mixed reviews

Christina1982 - you may well find you're wasting your money with the indoor aerials - there's really no substitute for an outdoor roof mounted aerial - unless you live in a very strong signal area indoor aerials are always going to be uncertain. You mentioned that your old tv picture wasn't great for analogue, despite increased output following the switchover in your area I suspect an indoor aerial will continue to be problematic.
If you have a good signal and picture on your downstairs TV it may be relatively easy to take a feed from that aerial and send it up to the bedroom.

Put a roof aerial in your roofspace, and make sure it points the right way, look round the neighbours' aerials and see what way they point/ The higher you can get it the better.
