Hi
Our area is due to switch over next week, and as my tv (in my bedroom) is old and has rubbish picture I decided to treat myself! My new tv arrived yesterday and it doesn't pick up any channels  I was using a portable ariel, last night someone mentioned a special digital aerial that boosts signal anyone got any ideas?! Don't want to have to get an aerial socket put in my bedroom unless there is nothing else that can be done.
Many thanks

there should be somewhere in the TV set up Menu that shows you the signal strength
Freeview does need a good strong signal , the desktop boosters don't normally work unless you get channels already, and as you get no channels I suspect you have a weak signalEx forum ambassador

a local tv shop came and installed it yesterday and they said wait until the switch over and still if no joys give them a call.
Just trying to get my options clean in my head. MY old tv gets them all with the aerial I have but this new tv with freeview built in not a thing, can't even get analouge
What do you suggest?0 -
I would agree about waiting until the switchover, because the freeview signal will be much stronger afterwards. All of the capacity that the transmitter currently uses for the the analogue signal will be available for boosting the freeview signal.0

Yeh gonna wait but concerned if it still won't work then0

Thinking about trying a booster ariel anyone know if it works?0 -
A guy from the company organising the big switch over was on the radio saying there was no such thing as a digital ariel, and warning people not to be taken in.
I don't know the number, but perhaps you could give them a ring.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

i'm going to ask the local shop where i purchased my tv0 -
do you have sky or virgin media tv packages??
i had the same problem as you and no matter what i tried nothing worked at getting a good freeview picture.. so i thought id pay a fortune to get an extra virgin box put in my bedroom where the tv was, virgin charges £15 on my bill but under it "Extra Box Discount £10" so only costs £5 per month and never have to worry about signals again!!lolplease just thank me0 -
No

the tv in the living room is fine so far so decided against sky etc mainly due to the cost, if we did have it i'd def be buying a box for my room0 -
Well been in to shop where I purchased the TV they dont' have any ariels and said to just get a digital indoor ariel, anyone able to recommend any? Been looking on argos' website and none have a great review - heard that the metal ones are better so def going to opt for one of those0
