For the record - we have been with talktalk for about 2 years now and have had little or no problems with the service. I did get a bit ticked off when we had an 'outage' and the nice 'lady from Mumbai' told me off for accessing our routers info - she was not happy with it at all and told me in no uncertain terms 'you should not be clicking on anything!' :rotfl::rotfl:

I did have to go through all the checks before she would refer me to the tech dept. All this could have been avoided if she had believed me when I told her that my tech support son had done all the checks and diagnosed the outage already. Tech department made me do more checks until son nicked me keyboard (the perils of wireless stuff) He logged in at the cmd prompt as admin and started to talk techie stuff and bless the poor lad on the other end of the phone. Shot straight over his head:rotfl: Soon came to the conclusion that we had an outage.

Upshot was TalkTalk got onto the problem very quickly and sorted it in less than 20 minutes - it took us longer to convince them of the problem and that it wasn't ours :rotfl:

Even though they wont unbundle our local exchange (too small apparently) I would still recommend TalkTalk to anyone.

*edit* One thing - 'Mumbai lady' did tell me it was a problem with our router - anyone with less savvy would have gone out and bought a new one!

I switched to talktalk just over a year ago and although I only use the net for basic surfing have had no problems at all. I only pay around £20 per month for 8mg broadband, landline calls (although I dont make many!) and line rental.

The connection can be slow at times, and is probably not 8mg, but calls to their helpline are free. On the couple of occasions I have had to call them they have been good compared with the nightmare that was my previous ISP, tiscali.

Overall I would rate talktalk 8/10

Being a PC engineer I see a lot of broadband customers. Talktalk they either have no problem with or hate with a vengeance:-)

Me, I signed up two weeks ago and have spent most of my time trying to persuade them that they put me on a slow (2Mb) connection when I asked and pay for a fast one.

They took a week to agree that I was right (Yes, my networking/engineering experience counted for nothing). Now, they cannot say when I will be switched to high speed.

It's been a waste of my (professional) time and energy. If they don't give me a decent response today, then I'm cancelling.

er, blimey - I've just been told by TT that it will be upgraded in 2 days time.

I won't choke on my hat just yet...but considering all, that is a welcome surprise.

I wonder if Dunstone's ears were burning:-)

When I first joined - the first week they offered broadband - 3 years ago, is it? - they told me Id get free broadband within a couple of months, when my local (country town) exchange was unbundled. 2 years on I still hadnt got it - had a whinge, got 6 months free sub and then just as that finished I had a letter saying it was all go with free broadband and 8 mg :) Been wonderful since.

The member forums are very good for help - well being a geek you dont need one - but they certainly help me on there with setting up my networking this weekend :) (done and dusted in 10 mins)

    Hi Krebbin,

If you could post on the TalkTalk Members forums we can take a look into any orders to upgrade your service to DSL max or LLU.

    Cheers
