Pulled out of talk talk before the 30 days were up.

Bad experience (won't bore u with the details), got very nervous after reading various comments here. Left BT on 9 June and have arranged to go back to them 6 July no connection fee but had to commit for 12 mths. Now I'm in a quandry what to do  have bought new netbook laptop (not yet used it!) and did look at O2 but they want £12+ p/m for BB (don't have O2 phone for reduced rate) and as a pensioner can't afford that. I checked samknows and I'm ok for LLU.

Additional prob on horizon is that I might be moving to another area in 6 months or so and could run into probs if my ISP can't provide BB and I'm stuck in contract. Would I be better off with dial up until I know for sure that I'm moving (I see Fast4 gets good reviews here or is there another?)

I've been using my local library internet services until bought new netbook for home and I can see how fast BB is compare to dial up but maybe I'm not in good place right now to choose.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

You are not going to get broadband for much less than £12/month, and you will easily exceed in phone charges if you use dial up .
Do you have Sky TV as they do cheap broadband.
What was wrong with the Talk Talk deal, too expensive or were you put off by scare stories.
Most contracts are for 12months, you could check with the ISP what the procedure would be should you move.
One point on your Netbook, does it have a built in dial up modem, or just wireless.
If you have a friendly neighbour with wireless maybe you could come to an arrangement to share his broadband.

Take a look at Virgin Broadband, they have offers on at the moment - till the 26th June.

Thanks to Penrhyn and Rock Bottom for replies. I've just logged on to library internet this morning. In reply to Penrhyn's questions - I don't have Sky; no neighbour to share wireless BB with; not 100% sure about my new netbook re the modem. You asked what wrong with talktalk - long before "go live" date they sent me faulty router (the connection wire wouldn't stay in the router); I rang technical support for 2 days but each time my call was disconnected; eventually got through, they promised new router but it didn't arrive and I could see the 30 day cut off point getting closer before issue resolved and no chance to try out the BB service. "Go live" phone connection went well.

Check again with samknows to find out if your exchange is a market 3 exchange. If it is, you could checkout Plusnet value which is £5.99 a month on a market 3 exchange. You would neeed to have a BT phone line (not LLU). There could also be some cashback if you sign up via quidco.

Fair enough. You do have to push the RJ11 connectors in quite firmly till the connector 'clicks'. Sometimes its a problem with the various bits coming from different manufactures and you get tolerance problems, its possible all you needed was a new telephone lead.

Are you sure you wern't trying to fit the telephone cable connector into the RJ45 LAN socket:eek:
I think you may have been too hasty especially as you say everything went live ok? Even if the router was faulty you could of got a cheap wired router for a tenner to check the bb worked from talk talk.

It was the power adapter cable which wouldn't fit into the router and just kept popping out. My son (who was on a visit) looked at it and confirmed the problem. No I haven't been too hasty - I rang talktalk yesterday about my direct debit; they said they had no record of my cancelling the contract; left me holding on for an age and they then disconnected the call. I don't want any dealings with a company like that.

They have been fine with me for over 2 years - there is someone on here, Emma I think her name is, who is a rep for talktalk and who would sort that out for you in hours Im sure.

I went on the talktalk forum with a problem once and within half an hour it had been sorted.

    Hi Fitzroy,

We can get a new router out to you in 3-5 working days if you could register and post at https://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums, by registereing there we can access your account details to get a modem out for you. If everything is a-ok with the connection once you've got the new router you'd be able to cancel the transfer back to BT and continue to use the TalkTalk service. If you do register on the TalkTalk forums let me know your username and I'll make sure the router is sent ASAP for you.

    Cheers

The talktalk rep's offer to sort things out with router is - I'm afraid - too late for me - and it was also not being able to get through to technical support for 2 days (and my calls while waiting to get through just being disconnected); being given different info by different departments etc etc.
