    sometimes it is!

you just have to make yourself believe that!

unfortunately it isn't that easy - it's the same with breaking any addiction (and then keeping that addiction out of your life - for the rest of your life - which is part of the problem). It's why smokers, gamblers, alcoholics and yes, spenders struggle. the brain creates pathways where a situation triggers an emotion and the learned solution is to use the chosen addiction as a crutch.

Losing weight needs a similar kind of LBM to getting out of debt. Unfortunately, there are just as many reasons to fall off the diet wagon as there are the DFW wagon and each time it gets harder to get back on again.

Was it Toto's dad who said that if diets worked then there would be only 1 diet. It would be called 'the Diet' and everyone would be slim :T

why put yourself in a category - if you dont succeed you'll feel worse - just change your lifestyle to eating well and becoming fit?

    do the DD diet? :)
I have done that before actually, when I moved (back) out of my parent's house a few years ago, joined a gym, went daily, started running... but the weight I have to lose is a result of SPD in pregnancy (immobile) and eating round after round of jam on toast while breastfeeding... I could do it the slow way, yes, but I certainly can't go to the gym daily... I have mostly sorted out the food problems when I stopped BFing (still miss the jam on toast though!) so just want a kick-start.

DD - lovely to see you back. I've not done a SOA on here either and feel like I'm treading water...just when I see land in sight, someone moves it another 10 miles away.....I spend my time torn between complete panic that we're not doing better and that feeling of "why shouldn't we have a bottle of wine...it's not as if we ever go out"...I need to find a happy medium.

Hope all the runners got on well.....it's so muggy here today that I hope it wasn't quite so hot for them.
Thanks Pooky :)I do that too, and of course OH doesn't challenge it. Before we had DS we both smoked and went out a lot, ate out at least twice a week, so it's easy now to justify the odd takeaway or pair of shoes because it's relative - I need to budget and incluce treats but make it work rather than feel guilty about it.

Glad someone is having nice weather - well if you can call muggy nice!
Got fed up with the ironing and gave up.
Think I may just go sit in the garden - can't settle.
Just been and told Mum and Dad about the shop etc and they have been really nice about it all! They are going to pay my car tax and MOT next month.

Definitely decided - shop will be closed and finished by the time I go away.

Bookie obviously I don't know your full story but I hope you feel better having made a decision, it's a big one! :grouphug:
  • Kayleigh thanks for making me feel less alone but that sounds really overwhelming, my OU course is just a level 1 with short essays and long deadlines, it is me that is crap really. 7 essays, that's two a week, so one every three days... what do you think? Is every essay crucial or can any be left completely? I have already missed one on my course so that's it.

They're all crucial ones unfortunately. I have got a week at the start of Aug as well, it's just that's the absolute latest they can be handed in since my tutors have to mark them before the summer exam board. It's going to mean spending most of July in the library and a few sacrifices on the DFW front as I'll have to have quite a few meals at the uni, but I reckon I can do it. Thankfully, I work as a cleaner at the uni as well so it means that when I finish work in the morning, I can go straight to the library and work all day (with a break for lunch) then have time for dinner when the library closes before my evening shift. It'll be tough but the best essay I ever wrote (my one and only 1st) was written after two solid days of work so I should be able to do 1 decent one every 3 days.

There's no food at all in the house so I'm off shopping now. Talk later.

Kayleigh, i found it hepled to break each essay down into paragraphs and then decide how many words are needed for each paragrapgh. Then i concentrated on each paragraph as they came.. and had a break inbetween. That way i concentrated on the now - and not worry about what was to come.

Kayleigh I'll hope for a rainy July for you then ;) those situations are just the ones where putting being DFW on hold is SO completely understandable - it's all about priorities, when things are fine and calm (ish) then yes taking that extra time to cook from scratch IS a priority, sure, but when the sh*t is moving towards the fan it's less so. You sound determined though, that will get you a long way... it's funny but my best essays have always been the last-minute ones too

I think scaredy is right about the approach, my last essay was 1500 words, I figured 500 of that would be intro/conclusion, leaving 1000, about four main points to make so 250 each and it seemed almost easy (well... looking back with rose-tinted glasses maybe but you know!)

I have a 1000-1500 word research assignment to do on equality and diversity within the next 3 weeks. On paper, it's an easy task - research the subject, keep all your research material (ie print outs, leaflets, newspaper cuttings) and do a 1000 piece covering 6 main points (it can be written in report style so you even have the headings!) It is about your starting point and thoughts and where the research took you thought wise. I can split it into 100 word intro, 100 word conclusion and 6x200 words for each sub section. In fact - the official word count is only 750-1000 words but they have said we can go to 1500 if we want. I'm no waffler when it comes to report writing but even I think 750 is a bit sparse on the word count front!

Each week I go to class, come home, put the folder down with the stuff I eagerly found in week 1  and then 7 days later pick it back up and go back for the next session. I've done nothing because everything else has been so busy.

Luckily, the session tomorrow is a research one. This means I can spend the 3 hours there with my pile of print outs and start to read them all through and start highlighting bits. I can then look online for any missing bits and bobs, print them off and hopefully start putting it together next week some time.

She's got it in her mind that you have to be over 7 stone before they'll start so I assume she's got that set in her mind as a weight to achieve...but she comes from skinny stock, her paternal side are all over 6ft and under 10 stone, my father is the same. The only thing I disapprove of is "how" she's going about it.....teenage girls are tricky creatures and I'd thought I was doing so well.

What I don't want is this escalting into something deeper seated, we're giving all the reassurance that we can and trying not to make an issue out of it.....easier said than done though.

Well an approach would be to home-make pies and the such-like to fatten her up. That has the advantage of:
    • you know what she's putting down her throat
    • she knows everything is above board ("them's slimming pies!")
    • it is still nutritious (junk food is sweet and calorie-laden, but dead)
    • it doesn't give a (potentially addictive) sugar rush (use wholemeal flour)
    • when she reaches her 7 stone (and a bit so there is no argument) you can cut them off again. Her weight will drop like a rock at that point.

Unfortunately, she's a teenage girl and once she's got a dumb idea into her head, it's going to be difficult to move it.

fell asleep onthe sofa last night. Started having a weird dream that I was working in a very French style cafe bar and everyone was very laid back and although I was in charge everyone was there having a bit of a sing a long to a really cool song even if they were staff and it was all really cool and happy.

I woke and this was on the TV just finishing on a concert on BBC4 - I had to write it down before I went to bed to look it up today as it was so weird how it affected me whilst I was asleep (I felt very relaxed and happy) and I had no idea who it was etc.
