Tesco Broadband

What experience does anyone have of Tesco?

I 'signed up' 5 weeks ago, am still waiting and have been told twice, when I chased, that they are waiting on the local exchange to increase capacity.

Is this flannel, or could they be right?

Is there anything I can do to chase?

Are Tesco still OK for a 512 line, unlimited download for £20?

Many thanks

  • I would say it is "right" as I signed a friend up and it was online in a week and I was about two weeks.

Tesco did have problems to start with and I had two days downtime myself but since then it has been great.

My sister tried to sign up for Tesco Broadband and after receiving several weeks of excuses gave up went elsewhere. Tesco said that there was a delay with BT, so she contacted BT who said that they had not yet received a request to activate her line. Somebody was telling porkies......... >:(

Most of the people that I know who have Tesco Broadband seem very happy with it but there do seem to be some problems 'joining up'.
  • I wouldn't bother with Tesco BB - there are far better deals around.
Check out e7even - they have just reduced their prices today.
Follow the referral link in my signature for more info.

  • E7even may be an OK provider at the moment but personally I wouldn't want to risk "up front payments" of more than 3 months at a time due to the rapidly changing nature of the BB business. It was only a few years ago that a number of dial up providers went bust due to massive competition and cut throat margins.

I see e7even do accept credit card payment though so anyone paying by this method may have some sort of protection if they fall by the wayside.

Personally I have been with Tesco since it started and am very pleased with both service and performance.

I looked at tesco but its a datastream product rather than an IPstream which means it is more likely to suffer contention issues.

In the end i went for the Demon home 500 offer.
This is a 512k product with free connection, modem, filters and no download limit for 19.99 inc vat on a 12 month contract.

Had it 2 weeks so far and its fast and reliable.

    Wouldn't touch Tesco Broadband.

A collegue ordered from Tesco over 2 months ago, it was apparently connected within 10/14 days ....... however he has never been able to connect. (and yes all the hardware has been tested on a working adsl line)

Despite numerous phone calls and e-mails, he is still without and they are charging his credit card.

Nobody rings back when promised, their customer service is terrible.

He is now taking it up with head office.

Last known info was about a week ago a BT engineer called to check the analogue quality, and he unofficially did a check on his line at the house and said there was no adsl signal whatsoever.

His neighbour has Broadband, NOT Tesco and it works !

As NTL supply Tesco with the Broadband connections - do not touch them either !

Those of you who have had a trouble free installation - think yourself lucky !
  • E7even is not just an OK provider - IMO they are a GREAT provider !
