The Mystery Shopping thread - IX

Hi,
I have been reading this thread for the last couple of days and I am very interested in becoming a Mystery Shopper, but I am a bit unsure of the Tax Returns
I work full time (employed) and am a 20% tax payer
So as I understand it, if I start doing MS, I need to register as self employed
Will that affect my current tax status? - as effectively I will be self employed and employed at the same time!!!
Also, I don't think, I will be earning anywhere near £4825 by MS,
So, am I correct in saying that I don't need to pay the NI - Class 2 / week
Thanks very much...

I'm happy to send my spreadsheet out to anyone who would like it - think it's gone to around 50 people now. The good thing about this, is that a couple of people have adapted it and returned it, making it even better!
So it's evolved over about a year into something that looks nothing like what we started with and we're all helping each other, so that's great! (thank you flyer & someone else who's MSE name I don't have)
Anyway, please PM me with your email address (important, as it's not possible to attach anything to a PM & if I'm sending out loads it saves me PM'ing you back to ask for it.)
It's got formulae in to work out your mileage at 40p per mile, your printing at 6p per sheet and will also calculate your profit and loss, the amount of tax you owe (providing your not a 40% tax payer ) and will keep a running total for you. So I think we've more or less got everything in there. If you take the bus or train, you can simply put that amount in instead of mileage, likewise for parking.
Does that sound similar to yours ukmonkey? Don't think there's anything we've missed?0 -
I got a torso shop at about 8.55pm tonight and my available shops dropped down from about 128 to 13. Then at about 9.30pm I looked again and the brothers' restaurant came up for my local one for Sunday lunch.
Mind you, first time in 3 years that I've managed to get it, as they always used to put them on during the day, when I'm at work. I much prefer these evening uploads :T June has been my busiest month since I started MS'ing, mainly because I'm fairly selective about what I take, but have managed 16 jobs now this month, which is about 3 times what I normally do!0 -

Correct, you will be employed and self employed and no it won't affect your tax status. You need an exemption form so that you don't have to pay NI on your self employment, being under £4k.0 -

Ah yes, didn't think about that! Very good idea - I should invite a friend over when for the pizza night!
The only ones I have so far are pizza and burgers - was initially not going to take them as I worried about the calories, but then I figured I don't have to eat the whole thing! You just have to take a bite or 2 to evaluate the taste, which shouldn't hurt too much. It'll also be an excuse to go the gym more often!
By the way - what is a "torso" job?
hmm which part of your person is the torso ?
And its retail so its a shop"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."

I have a question I've been pondering, regarding mileage. If I have 3 jobs in 1 day, the mileage to point 1 would be just the 1 way, the mileage to point 2 would be from 1-2, and the mileage for 3 would be from 2-3 and then from 3 to home. Is this correct?0
