I have a question I've been pondering, regarding mileage. If I have 3 jobs in 1 day, the mileage to point 1 would be just the 1 way, the mileage to point 2 would be from 1-2, and the mileage for 3 would be from 2-3 and then from 3 to home. Is this correct?
Yes that's correct. Mileage is.........well, mileage, so the miles you've done for your MS work can be put as expenses, whether it's miles between jobs and/or jobs to/from home.
I've seen posts before saying that some people claim for mileage to and from home for every job, even when they don't go home between jobs (as in your own example above where you go from job to job before returning home). Personally I wouldn't do that as I don't see the point of fiddling the books for what is probably a small amount of tax savings at the end of it all. I just claim for the miles incurred purely for MS work, which I guess is what most people do.0 -
You speak a lot of sense there Johnny. Thanks for the info.
This is such a reliable forum! I've only been doing this for 5 days, and I'm so impressed with the generosity and commradari that goes on here.
Thanks again.0 -

Oh! Now I feel stupid!! I get it!
I'e just got my first RE job, finally. I wonder though whether you are allowed to take someone with you to the pub? I'll be ok on my own, but I might feel like a bit of a muppet sitting there with a couple of drinks by myself! I know some of the companies say you definitely can't take someone with you, but I didn't see anything about that when I signed up with RE?Slowly working towards earning enough money (through various ventures) to live unworriedly, treat my family and sleep under a lovely roof. x0 -

Yeah you can take someone with you with most RE pub jobs - you just can't claim the extra reimbursement. So you can claim your drink/meal, but just not the person you're with! Hope that helps!
You can always email them or ring and double check. I emailed my contact (their name and email will be at the bottom of your assignment notes) about the Health Club job I did asking if I coudl bring my partner, and he let me know that I had to do it alone. It's always worth asking!TWBM 2010 Wishlist:

Please can I ask for some advice from the tax experts out there and also from the people who do MSing in addition to having a 'proper' job?
I've recently started a part time job and I'm being taxed on the emergency code BR. I've just rang the tax office and they won't do anything this week due to a nationwide update of their systems... Impressive, eh?! (I think it was the wrong type of snow on the server, or something) Anyway, I was told to ring back next week and tell them that this new job (which they currently have listed as my secondary employment) is my main employment and then they will put me on code 647L. He said I should tell them this is my only employment since April (I assume he means because of the tax year).
The man on the phone wasn't very friendly so I didn't feel comfortable asking any more... but I really don't understand what the implications are? I don't want to give up MSing altogether but I don't know how to declare income from MSing (via my self assessment form?) at the same time as paying PAYE from my 'proper' job. Can anyone make it simple for me please?0
