  • Great, I have to release my first job on RE. :(
If I'm still probationary, does that mean I'll get minus points and so I won't be able to see any other jobs to take to get me off probation?

(I only have to let it go because the usual trains have been cancelled so its going to take me over an hour to get ther and over an hour to get back for a little 15 minute energy job!)

I am sure I read on here (goodness knows where but I did trawl through an awful lot of pages at some point) that someone had -2 and still got to see jobs. (do let us know though!)

What I don't understand is why someone who uses another forum -wants to come on this one and change it ? Why does it matter if we choose a more laid back approach and wish TG junior well with his Swine Flu -some forums are No Chat/Just Business others are more of a community. We don't have as many rules here as some other forums (partly because we like it that way and partly because we have no way of enforcing them as MSE is generally unmoderated) so we do things differently-we encourage chat (but NOT on the alerts thread please ! ;) ) Different strokes for different folks-how boring and pointless it would be if all forums were the same !!
I do see why some people get aereated over the constant same question. There's a limited number of jobs to go around and whilst people ARE generally helpful and share I can quite see why they don't want to further dilute the job pool with folk who can't even be bothered reading back or searching before asking for help. Yes I do think general guidence on how to add clients should be in the FAQ on the first page-and could be added now rather than wait for a new thread so there is somewhere to direct people to which would cut down on the sarky comments and irritation factor. Most people on here are genuinely helpful and I'd hate to see that lost because people get fed up or feel taken advantage of.

Why don't you ring RE instead and see if you can reschedule it (if you can't reschedule on the system) rather than cancel it. I've found them very helpful when I've had difficulties like that.

    Phew *sigh of relief*!

I now have -4 points after I released it instead of my previous 0 points (that makes me look so bad :()

But I still see 72 jobs - yay! Now I just have to go to my doctor and pick up my prescription as they are all pharmacy jobs, and hope that they are still on when I get back from work.

Thanks for suggesting this, but I was doing it on the last date possible for it. I did think about rescheduling it, but with the trains how they are this week, I thought that it would be really bad if I had to reschedule just to cancel it later.

I think it's better just to write it off as a lesson not to accept jobs that require me to rely on public transport!

Often there is a bit of leeway beyond the dates shown for the job -I've had jobs shown as for example 01-07 July and when I've called they've rescheduled it for the following week. Never hurts to ask (with RE).

I do all my jobs by public transport so I do feel your pain but you learn to work the system. I had nine jobs on Monday in SE London (I live in Kent) which earned £90 in fees -three were at the same station on my way home and four were in adjacent suburbs -so lots of hopping on and off of buses and I certainly got value out of my one day travelcard but it was very do-able. I did plan it carefully with travelline before I left though.
For me often jobs on the rail line work out better as I can break my journey along the way for the cost of a day return and do a couple of jobs in one town and then a couple more on the way back in another. I've also got very good at working out where travel all day bus tickets go -and discovered my local bus company also do an (unadvertised) one hour ticket with unlimited stops.

I just had a query raised on an RE job, about a question that I KNOW I answered. Still, I have replied to the email with the info again, and went immediately to check my payment schedule - the payment for that job is no longer pending, so the proof reader would not have let me leave a complete question blank, would they? Not to mention the system which insists on a certain number of characters?

On a separate note, do GAP take issue with cancelling jobs? I had to cancel 2 with them a fortnight ago due to tummy bugs, and have now cancelled a few more due to the flu. Would it be worth emailing them to let them know why, or should I not draw attention to myself? I really only tend to do their jobs when I have others booked in the same area, but I'd like to keep in good standing with them just in case.

Some may disagree but I'd drop them a line and let them know why.
