Hi all
Just when I thought me week couldnt get any worse. I got pulled over by the police yesterday as my car flagged up no insurance. They called my insurance company and the call was apparently never logged to change my car over when I got a better one in March. (although I did it online as well).
So OK, 6 points and a £200 fine.
My other problem is my driving licence is still my provisional. I passed my test last year but never got around sending it off. Both complete oversights on my part and I'm definitely not trying to get out of it, but what is going to happen in 7 days when I can only produce my provisonal licence? Shall I phone them today and tell them this?
I'm absolutely terrified I'm going to get locked up for this? Do i need a solicitor? Sorry for the random questions but this is the first time I've ever been in trouble.
thanks x

Hi Secretspender,
Theres a few things I don't understand about this, why would you phone and change it online aswell ?
Did you not chase up the insurance company when your new cert didn't arrive ?
When you passed the test didn't the examiner send off for your new licence ?
I don't think they will lock you up but it's looking like a ban ???????It's not just about the money0 -
Hi sorry. I changed it online originally and did chase them when the new cert didnt come through, but they said as it was online I could print it off from there (which I did). However speaking to them yesterday they still have my old car registered with them

No the examiner never sent it off, he said it was up to me x0 -
1) Either your car was insured or it wasnt. there is no defence to no insurance as its your responsibility. If it showed as insured online and you have a printed certificate it was insured and you need to find out why the insurers are now saying different.
2) Re the driving licence. If you have never sent off your provisional you are driving without a licence as you dont have one until you apply for it after passing your certificate.
Tbh its very likely you will be facing 6 points and a resit and a possible ban too if you get found guilty of both.
You need to seek legal advice and quick.
Getting locked up won't happen unless your a habitual criminal with a lengthy criminal record0 -
Agree with the above if you have got a printed off certificate that shows the new details it will show that at least as far as you were aware it was insured however if the computer is not showing it might just be a case of it hasn't updated.
Does the producer ask you to produce an insurance cert ????
You do need to seek legal advice before you produce
It's not just about the money0 -
Where is your driving license pass certificate??Not Again0

thanks guys. A ban it will be then.
Why do I need legal advice? I'll hold my hand ups to it. Will it look bad if I have to go to court with no solicitor?
Sorry for asking x0 -
its upstairs with my other stuff.
no they did not ask me to produce anything, just gave me penaltly notice with 6 points and thing to pay £2000 -

If you go to court you will need to be legally represented.
The Uk justice system isnt like the a US Tv show were you represent yourself and win or etc with no bother.
To get the best result - even if you admit it - you need legal representation. they can help minimise fines/bans as well as get better payment terms.
They will also know the law in far more detail and any sort of defence available.0 -
Ok your new post makes it sound like you have accepted a fixed penalty. i.e if you pay it it wont go any further.
However you do not have a driving licence and 6 points means you need to resit it immediately.0 -

I doubt you will get anything for your licence. I would of thought they will let you off if they see the certificate once they check its real with the DVLA.
As for insurance there is nothing you can do.Not Again0
