I recall a television program recently where a mother did manage to get a 6month old school uniform..... for a very small child....0 -

My DS is tiny too, I had his first uniform from Next as they do small sizes. The flat front trousers in age 3 are slim and have adjustabe waists. Did have to turn the bottom up an inch with wonder web but only took a few minutes. Polo shirts from there are narrow and an age 3 fitted fine.0 -
It might be worth checking out a small independant uniform shop, they usually have smaller sizes...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I had a look at Tesco's 3-4 trousers this morning (for boys) and they are MASSIVE. The length is about twice as long as DS's legs. And I know he won't be the only one with a problem in September because although one of the shortest in his playgroup, he's not the smallest by any means. So I won't be looking there again then .
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
Oh dear. I'd better start looking too. My younger DS is about to start nursery at school, he'll be one of the youngest & shortest. Where can I find 12-18month school trousers
.Might have to talk to school about sending him in in his current jeans or trousers that fit!

I'd second Next as being slim fitting. They were the only ones which my little chap could keep up!
In reply to original post - how about somewhere like John Lewis? They have a permanent school wear section, so I guess they are likely to cater for private schools who tend to start wearing uniform earlier. Now proud Mumto3 :j0 -
Another option is to look at the shops like BHS that have wedding collections - I know we had a pair of smart black trousers out of BHS for my eldest to wear to my sisters wedding and he was barely 1 at the time - given his history I'd guess they were probably a pair of 6-9months.
There will be pairs out there but because school age is 4+ you won't normally find sizes below that in the "Back to School" section. Most big towns will have a school uniform specialist shop, or if you can find them the remaining shops in the old Adams chain often had smaller uniforms I seem to recall. You have my sympathy - our eldest will be starting in September at 4 3/4's and is just about able to wear the Asda age 3-4 trousers (try different styles as there is one of their styles that fits him better than the others) but even then they will have to be turned up. He's a skinny rake and most trousers just fall down!
Edited to add - I realise buying them at higher than supermarket prices is probably against the ethos of this site, but in any walk of life buying specialist stuff is always more expensive - if you have to buy it from an independent shop at higher prices, console yourself that after the first year or so they'll grow into the supermarket stuff so the higher expense is a one off!Adventure before Dementia!0 -
thanks all for the replies, my dd is 3 and half and starts in sept but at the moment only wears 12-18m tops and 18-24m trousers, she is only 24lb and is skinny so i think she will just have to wear normal clothes for a while lol:TIf your happy and you know it clap your hands :T0

My daughter has just turned 4 and is wearing size 12-18 (and has been for some time now:rolleyes:)!! She started nursery last year and finding uniform in 12-18 (or 18-24 at a push) was a nightmare (not obligatory but I wanted her to wear it iyswim), I ended up getting it all (school skirt/dresses/shirts/plain cardi as school one drowned her) from ebay and they fit like a dream!!!! Skirts or dresses are a bit easier as it doesn't matter as much if they are a bit longer imo. Didn't manage to find her any trousers, couldn't find any grey school ones small enough but school let her wear black ones instead (loose legging type from woolies before they closed). Lots of black trousers on ebay.
Dif stores can vary wildly in size, could be worth taking a pair of trousers etc that do fit and trying shop ones against, and if they look ok, trying them on?
I spoke to the nursery teachers and asked their advice too and they suggested a couple of shops (no good but was nice they helped) or they might be able to tell you what alternatives would be acceptable
Good luck, it IS possible, just takes a bit of hunting
Will be joining this search when little man is due to start, oh the joy, he is short and looks chunky but is wearing 12-18 at 33 months!! (does come in useful with them wearing same size tho lol)0
