I'd recommend looking a La Carihuela which is between Torremolinos and Benalmadena - its all on the flat, mostly pedestrianised and a fantastic beach and loads of bars and restaurants. When you look on Trip Advisor you will find lots of really good comments on the various hotels in the area.

Totally agree with you . some lovely hotels in La Cariheula and you can walk along the promenade to the Marina at benalmadena if you want. some lovely restaurants too anything you want to know just ask I have lived here on and off for years. i soo prefer Torremolinos , you just have to go to the spanish parts as opposed to the "San Miguel" - the main shopping street. From torre. you can go to Mijas which is lovely and also Arroyo de Miel ( Both you can get to from the train station in Torre.Bus trips to Gibraltar if you,ve never been.Puerto Banus, Marbella etc.....LOVE IT !!!!!
