reading this has inspired me so i have just been into the garden and put some seeds into trays.
I have planted some yellow tumbling tomatoes (need to scrounge some brackets from my dad as i already have hanging baskets)
some carrots, spring onions, peppers, courgettes. and some flower seeds.
I have also got some onions and garlic to plant once i have sorted out the veg patch.
I have managed to scroung some timber as well from my dad so i can do a long raised bed in the front garden which they are bringing down this week when they visit for easter.
I have also potted on some cherry tomatoes that i planted about a month ago and am thinking of selling the spares in a little while.
what i want to find now is some spinich, any ideas where i can get some really cheaply?

hello
just to say if you want to grow something and see nearly instant results/encouragement, try salad leaves...my OH planted our 'mixed leaves' seeds on Thursday night and they'd all come up by Sunday morning!! some are an inch high now. Apologies if everyone knew that anyway, I was just really excited by it!

I am really pleased with all my seedlings, but have got the the point where checking every day (yes, I know it's OTT!!) is getting frustrating because after the initial excitement, not much seems to be happening.
How long will it take for my tomato seedlings, currently 1-2" high and just sprouting their second pair of leaves, will look like the plug plants that you can already buy in the garden centres?
Thanks

Hi Annie,
Here's one of my 6 week old tomatoes.
I found that they grew really fast after I'd pricked them out into their own pots. They're now about 8 inches high.
My speediest plants have been marigolds so if you want quick results I'd recommend them. I planted them at the same time as the tomatoes and some of them are just about to open their first flower.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0 -
Wow, that's amazing! Are you using a heated greenhouse or something? Maybe mine are too cold?0
-
No they've just been in my windowsill in the house, didn't cover them with anything but they were above a radiator while they were little. Now moved to the back window with no radiator for fear of them becoming leggy.
Where are you growing yours? I wouldn't worry about them being cold if they're somewhere in the house but I've no experience with greenhouses so don't know about that.
I would wait till the second leaves are a little bigger and then !!!!!! them out. They'll probably get going much quicker then.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0
