I have just come back from a boot fair and there was loads of people selling veggie plants nice & cheap..

Bought 2 yellow tomato plants for 40p each from a lovely old guy. He also had cucumber, peppers, gherkin, garlic and lots lots more..

Definately better than the garden centres and you can get loads of advice aswell if needed.

Hmmmm...wonder if there are any boot fairs on tomorrow? I was thinking of geting a couple of tomato plants in case I was too late for sowing the seeds. If I'd have thought, we could have gone to a car boot today instead of going to look at a Land Rover!!!!!

Got my potatoes in today. Have planted them in my brothers garden :rotfl: with permission of course. As I need space to plant the rest of my veggies in my own garden.

Will see about picking up some more potatoes when wilkinsons have there gardening items at half of even 75% off.

Moved my seedlings from the graden shed in to the cold frame.

Planted some cucmumbers and some more runner beans. As the last lot of runners never came up  .

Anyone have luck with cucumbers as I never seem to be able to get them to grow.

    Yours

    Hi Calley

I planted a second lot of charlotte potatoes today. I planted 5 in buckets a few weeks ago and today I planted another 5 -hoping to stagger the produce, though the first ones haven't done much yet!

Also, since comparing notes on here yesterday, my tomatoes have shot up! Well, not shot up exactly, but a few have started sprouting their third and fourth pair of leaves. I will pot the best ones on before I go back to work on Weds.

    Not yet tried cucumbers, sorry....

... and lots of other gardening offers from this Thursday 20th April.

I was thinking I might pop and get a few grow bags, though my seedlings have a long way to go yet - I presume that the grow bags won't 'go off' if kept in the shed unopened for a few weeks?

Not a sale, as such, but Lidl have different 'weekly offers' alongside their usual groceries. This week they are selling gardening stuff, from Thursday, until stocks run out.

Otherwise, B and Q have 5 bags for £5 (not sure how much they are per single bag).
  • Spent the weekend getting the garden ready :)

    and have planted seeds for:

    runner beans
    cabbage
    cauliflower
    tomatoes
    onions
    beetroot
    lettuce
    cucumber!

fingers crossed it all comes up lol

  • Spent a couple of afternoons down on our allotment/Green Gym !

Put the Main Crop of Spuds in (Romano & Pentland Crown). Nothing has apeared from the earlies yet though, which were put in 3 weeks ago. Saying that, at least there more protected from the frosts.

I tidied the Onion rows up, (put these in last October) & the same for the Garlic.

The Garlic, Onions & Shallots planted a few weeks ago inbetween these rows are all coming up.

I'm hoping to start off sowing Spring Onions & Radish, at two week intervals. Both packets say sow a little periodically.

We are also looking at sorting out a bed for the Runner Beans & constructing a frame for them. Think they go in in May.

We have alot of Tomato plants (Moneymakers & Gardeners delight) in the Inside Greenhouse (a sort of plastic covered stand with three shelves). Also got Cabbage, Cougettes, Celery & Chillis on the go.

I'll let you all know how they all get on.

  • As this year is "do up the garden year", and we spent BHM digging out the patio area, I'm going to put some late pots in to break up the bed that I want to use as my rose one, the re-placed rockery is going to provide the backdrop for an " 'erb garden" <<french accent necessary>> and, of course, thh bet lynch's of the veg world, runner beans. Not a great deal but this year we will be concentrating on trying to get rid of the remains of the builder's rubble that they "tidied" into the ground................
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D

Calley I grow most things but have never had any luck with cucumbers..I have no problem actually getting them to grow they just taste very bitter, think its something to do with the poolination etc, they're tricky blighters!
Indoors..My courgettes now have their second leaves, all my squash and pumpkins are up (i know its early but I have a warm, sheltered garden ;) ) Tomatoes have 6 leaves as do the peppers, aubergines are up just need some more windowsills :rotfl:
Outdoors..Still picking kale, cabbage and overwintered lettuces :D Strawberries (perpetual) have flowers on  can't take these off as DS3 would go nuts..Beans,lettuce,turnips,radish,carrots,tatoes,parsnips and beetroot are all in as are onion sets,sp onions and pickling onions :D
    Time for a cuppa!!!
