ive got an old computer.....it stopped working ages ago.........then i thought it might be the Windows 98 on it that was kaput? (i dont have the disc anymore)
anyway, i downloaded on my laptop Linux (free), and although it seemed okay...it wouldnt let me install anything new.....ie firewall etc.....and now its not working at all (again)! It deleted the existing windows.
so can anyone recommend/suggest another 'operating system' please?
Thankyou!

You mean a free operating system that you already know how to use?
If you're only familiar with Windows, then considering Windows costs money, you might be out of luck.
What distro of Linux did you download? If you haven't already, you might give Ubuntu a try.
If you still can't get it to work, post on the forums or buy a book.0 -

The firewall should not stop you downloading or installing anything.
Unless you're talking about the Box that pops up asking for your password. (which is standard over most Linux installs) it only pops up when you install programs that requite administrator access.Laters
