moving son from cot to bed......

Hi

My DS is only 16mths old but has recently started to rock his cot, so that it ends up on only two legs.
I fear that it's only a matter of time before he hurt himself.

He can't walk yet and is a very good sleeper (hope i haven't tempted fate with that comment!!)

What I am wondering is whether I should get him a bed so soon.

He shares a room with his older brother who is 6 and often tries to get into his bed around bed time.
With my oldest DS i had none of this trouble, he was around 18months-2yrs when i moved him from his cot to his bed and i had no concerns at all wih the move.

This time around I feel that my youngest DS is too young for a bed, but too old and strong for a cot!! :o

Has anyone else put their baby in a bed so young?

he leans on one side and sort of forces all his weight onto it when he's stood up, i didn't know he did it until i was reading to my eldest last week and saw him do it , the eldest ds didn't flinch and just said 'oh, he does the all the time!'

i obviously don't want to risk him getting hurt but i also don't want to put him into a big boys bed too soon. i've just been looking on the argos website and some beds say from 18mths, some from 15mths. I know it's only for recommendation though just thought i'd check.

if i get him one, i think it will be this from ikea -

but then you have to pay extra for a mattress :(

Could you attached the cot legs to the floor or wall in some way? Or attach something very heavy to the base?

    hi,

we're in a rented 1st floor flat and ds's room is carpeted so i doubt that would work for us.
would have done in our old house though!!

    thanks anyway.

Ikea has a cheaper one as well, i suppose you could paint it yourself any collour:

And the mattress starts from £25, so depending on what you would like, you can have it for as little as £64..

Could you use some similar sort brackets to attach it to a wall, I live in a rented property and have put up pictures and a mirrors, the letting agent was fine with this so log as we fill and paint over any holes when we leave.

  • Both of mine were about two when they progressed to a bed. Still didn't stop my daughter falling out at 3 (twice). How about trying him on just the mattress only, or an airbed mattress. That way, if he does roll out, he won't hurt himself too much. Not being able to walk, he should be able to just clamber back in. Just an idea.
We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

Moved my eldest into a bed at 14 months as he could climb out the cot and fell out a couple of times, I put him into a low bed with a bed guard and put the old cot matress on the floor just in case he fell out.

I had to move my son out of his cot at a very young age, about 14mths I think. He was waking up and getting bored so resorted to playing with the nappy contents and doing a bit of finger painting on the walls! Not nice!!!
After we moved him to a bed he never did it again.
He was also a real climber so I worried about him falling out too.
I remember looking out the window and seeing him on top of the rose arch when he was under 3! Oh lordy, what a handful...
