Louise, I'm sorry you have not had the replies you expected, this might help you http://www.ukgatsos.com/0

I couldn't find the OP's camera on there but it could well have been a mobile as was previously (and helpfully) suggested by hjb123. Most of the site's search functions are broken at the moment.Dora_the_Explorer wrote:Louise, I'm sorry you have not had the replies you expected, this might help you http://www.ukgatsos.com/Can I help?0 -
Serious crime! Get real! Most cameras are in places to make money. How many have you seen in a side road or outside a school? 1 MPH over the limit in these places is serious a few MPH over on a dual carriage way or other open stretch is not. The brainwashing of the scamera psrtnerships seems to work on some people. The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0

Well, as you're stating "facts" while everybody else has only been forwarding opinions I must bow to your superior knowledge. I expect Parliament to follow suit soon and we'll all see a change in the law :rotfl:catkins wrote:Serious crime! Get real! Most cameras are in places to make money. But if you don't want to get caught breaking the law then don't do it. Speeding cameras will catch people who speed, CCTV cameras in shops will catch those who steal. We don't get a big backlash against CCTV but which group kills the most innocent people? Can I help?0 -
Hi Louise,
Not everybody believe's you should get 3 pts, a fine and increased Insurance Premiums!
When was the NIP served, it must be within 14 days of the offence or it's not legal.
Check out this website - it gives good advice on the legalities

For the moralists... Average Speed has increased - Safety has increased ie almost all cars have Anti-Lock brakes fitted as standard therefore stopping distances are shorter...
Speed camera's are a good source of income for the treasury!
Louise - Fill in your details and ask for proof. Ask to see the photographic evidence! I did and they wouldn't/couldn't provide the evidence - never went to court!
Good Luck!0 -
And I thought we lived in a country where one was innocent until PROVED guilty!!!!!!
Just as well Judge Jeffries passed away along time ago and you certainly would not want some of this lot on jury service.
A photograph of a car exceeding the speed limit is not in itself proof of guilt. There are
many factors that could be involved before a verdict can safely be judged-and Peppipoo is a great start as mentioned in an earlier post.
When you have no idea where you were caught on camera, it is virtually impossible to remember the circumstances prevailing at that time. There have been inummerable
cases of speed cameras misrecording a vehicle's actual speed.
You need to know where the camera was sited [there are rules about where they can
be positioned in relation to the road, the distance from where the photo was taken,
how the police were dressed, and what obstructions were between the camera and your car-eg bridges telegraph poles metal fences and other vehicles just for a start].
If the camera was not a fixed one, then readings have to be done prior to the camera operating in order to ensure accurate readings.
There is also questions as to when the camera was last calibrated and what training the officers had on that model-many hand helds are notoriously inaccurate and
it is a travesty of justice that those ones continue to be used.
After that you could look to see if the 30 mph limit is being correctly signposted and
administered.
Were you there at that time, or has some one cloned your number plate: or have the Police misread your registration plate.
After visiting peppipoo, try putting "inaccurate speed cameras" on google uk and just
read some ot the 40000 odd websites about them.
You could also refer your detractorsto the following url
http://www.radar-detectors.co.uk/news_at_last_proof_that_speed_camerascan_get_it_wrong.asp
Just like you, snapped at 40 mph in a 30 mph area. However he had the benefit, being
in a lorry, of carrying a tachograph which confirmed his speed as 26 mph. And though there are very many recorded incidents of errors, how many more go undetected.
Case dropped with no comment from the authorities as to why they had got it wrong.0 -
1) If the camera wasnt in a zone marked by speed camera signs its not enforcable.
2) if thew camera doesnt have a calibration certificate for that day its not enforcable (assuming it was a mobile unit)
just some things to think about. If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

I wish the same energy that's put into screaming about scamming speed camers could be put into feeling affronted by the speeding cars that injure children.
It's a rare bird who never exceeds the speed limit - if you get caught, stop whining, feeling embarrassed and angry, get over it and grow up.
If the OP doesn't know which camera they were clocked by then presumably they have no idea where they were exceeding the limit and where they weren't. The OP has no reason to believe that the police think they are so important that they will accuse them of speeding just to give them their moment of glory in court.0
